Defect: Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2018 Rockwood and Flagstaff recreational trailers equipped with Dexter Axles. The spindle nut on the axles may not have been torqued to the proper specifications.

Consequence: The overtightened nut may cause the hub bearings to fail and the tire and rim to separate from the axle resulting in a loss of vehicle control, increasing the risk of a crash.

The contact owns a 2018 Forest River Rockwood. The contact stated that the RV appeared to be leaning toward the right side over the tire. While the RV was parked, the contact inspected the RV and crawled under the RV and noticed that the frame had several cracks. The contact found two cracks on the right side of the frame above the axle and one crack on the left side above the axle. The RV was taken to the dealer where it was confirmed that the frame had cracks above the axle. The dealer informed the contact that the RV could not be repaired and was a total loss. The contact notified the insurance company, who declined to file a report due to the damage being a factory defect. The RV remained at the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure.
The contact owns a 2018 Forest River Rockwood Mini-Lite M-1905 Camper. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, the front driver’s side tire experienced a blowout. The contact stated while inspecting the camper, he noticed that the subframe was collapsing. The contact stated he continued driving back to his residence after replacing the driver’s side tire. The contact took the camper to the local dealer and was informed that they were unable to repair the camper. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure.
