TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2007 FORD FREESTYLE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE DECELERATED TO 30 MPH AND STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE HOWEVER, THE SPEED NEVER INCREASED. THE FAILURE RECURRED INTERMITTENTLY ONLY WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE VEHICLE UNTIL THE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
THE CAR IS LUNGING WHEN I INITIALLY PUT IT IN REVERSE AND WHEN PUT IN DRIVE, IT USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN I HAVE DRIVEN IT FOR A WHILE AND MOSTLY HAPPENS WHEN IT IS HOT OUTSIDE. WHILE SITTING PARKED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING FOR A FEW MINUTES, I PUT IT IN DRIVE, THE ENGINE REVVED AND IT LITERALLY LUNGED FORWARD ABOUT 5 FT., I PRESSED THE BRAKE AND IT DIED. IT TOOK A FEW MINUTES TO RESTART IT. I DID TAKE IT TO THE DEALER IN 2009 AND THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. IN MAY OF 2010, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY REPAIRED A HARNESS THEY SAID MAY HAVE BEEN CHAFFED AND POSSIBLY GROUNDING OUT AT THE RIGHT SIDE OF FIREWALL BUT ALSO STATED THAT IT MAY STILL HAVE PROBLEMS AND THEY WERE RIGHT. LAST YEAR, THE LUNGING STARTED AGAIN BUT NOT A LOT AND...
STARTED TO EXPERIENCE ENGINE SURGE PROBLEM THAT IS APPARENTLY PRETTY COMMON. MOSTLY OCCURS WHEN ACCELERATING FROM STOPPED POSITION. ALSO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CHECKED CODE AT NAPA STORE. P0109 INDICATING FUEL RAIL PRESSURE SENSOR. LOCAL MECHANIC CLAIMED IT TO BE A FUEL FILTER PROBLEM. HAD MECHANIC CHANGE FILTER, PROBLEM RESOLVED FOR VERY SHORT TIME PERIOD. ABOUT MONTH LATER SAME PROBLEM AND ENGINE CODE. REPLACED FUEL SENSOR MYSELF. PROBLEM RETURNED 2 DAYS LATER WITHOUT ENGINE CODE. FROM MY RESEARCH ON THIS SITE AND OTHERS FOUND OUT ABOUT CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 12N03. CALLED LOCAL DEALER TO LOOK INTO HAVING VEHICLE CHECKED. WAS INFORMED BY SERVICE OPERATOR THAT MY VIN DOES NOT QUALIFY BUT THEY WOULD LET ME PAY $150.00 DOLLARS TO CHECK OUT PROBLEM. I AM THINKING I WILL EXERCISE MY FREE WILL TO GET RID OF THIS VEHICLE FOR A KIA OR HYUNDAI MODEL THAT I CAN TRUST. *TR
I HAVE HAD MY 2007 FORD FREESTYLE SINCE 2008. THIS CAR HAS BEEN A MONEY PIT. I HAVE HAD TO GET A WATER PUMP, AC COMPRESSOR, AND THROTTLE BODY, NOW IT NEEDS AN EXPENSIVE FAULTY TRANSMISSION REPLACED CALLED CVT TRANSMISSION. THE CAR IS NOW PARKED FOR SAFETY AND TO AVOID FURTHER DAMAGE. THE ISSUE THAT I HAVE EXPERIENCED IS WHILE MY FOOT COMPLETELY ON THE BREAK, THE CAR HAS DARTED FORWARD WITH OUT MY ABILITY TO STOP IT. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN WITH PEOPLE WALKING IN FRONT OF ME IN THE CROSS WALK WHILE AT THE STOP LIGHT AND MY CAR HAS DARTED AT THEM. SCARY!! TO SAY THE LEAST. I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HIT SOMEONE DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
THIS HAS HAPPENED ALMOST EVERYDAY, IF YOU STOP FOR A SHORT TIME EITHER LONG LIGHT OR PULL IN SOME WHERE AND TAKE OFF THE WRENCH COMES ON AND AT THAT POINT I KNOW THE CAR WILL NOT GO OVER 54 MILES PER HOUR AND ACTS LIKE IT WON'T UP SHIFT OUT OF SECOND GEAR EVEN THOUGH I KNOW ITS A CVT , THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING AND DANGEROUS , FORD WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT , UNTIL ENOUGH PEOPLE DIE OR GET SEVERELY INJURED , I MUST BE LUCKY THOUGH MINE HAPPENS ALL THE TIME I KNOW IF I SHUT THE FREE STYLE OFF AND RE START IT GOES BACK TO NORMAL FOR A WHILE ... STOPPED AT SIGNAL LIGHT, WRENCH LIGHT AND ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. WHEN ATTEMPTED TO ACCELERATE, VEHICLE RPM'S MOVED ERRATICALLY AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT DRIVE ABOVE 35MPH. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO TRANSMISSION SHOP AND WAS TOLD VEHICLE WENT INTO "FAIL SAFE MODE" TRANSMISSION IS NONE REPAIRABLE AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. PREVIOUSLY HAD CAR SERVICED UNDER RECALL WITH THROTTLE. ONE DAY PRIOR, THE CAR "SURGED/LUNGED" WHEN PUT IN REVERSE. HAD RECALL DONE 12 MONTHS AGO AND JUST WENT OVER 12000 MILES SINCE WORK DONE. *TR

WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE A LOUD RATTLING NOISE CAN BE HEARD. THIS NOISE STOPS TEMPORARILY WHEN THE CAR IS SHIFTED FROM "PARK" TO "DRIVE". THE NOISE THEN BECOMES PROGRESSIVELY LOUDER WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED. GAS MILEAGE HAS DECLINED WHEN DRIVING. WHEN PARKING ON ONE OCCASION THE CAR LUNGED FORWARD WITHOUT ACCELERATING THE GAS PEDAL. I TOOK THE CAR INTO A AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP TO SEE WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS AND THEY INDICATED THAT THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE OF DEFECTIVE DESIGN/MATERIALS IN THE "CONTINUOUSLY VARIABLE TRANSMISSION" (CVT). FORD HAS DONE NOTHING TO PROVIDE A REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION AT NO CHARGE AND HAS NOT MODIFIED CVT TO CORRECT THIS OBVIOUS MANUFACTURING DEFECT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH HAD A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND INCREASE RPMS. IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER. ENGINE IDLE IN PARK MAKES A LOUD HELICOPTER SOUND WHEN ENGAGED IN DRIVE OR REVERSE SOUND IS NOT HEARD AS LOUD. AFTER DOING LENGTHY RESEARCH THIS COMMON PROBLEM WITH CVT TRANSMISSIONS BY FORD AT AROUND THE SAME MILEAGE (70,000MI).FORD HAS YET TO RECALL THESE VEHICLES VOLUNTARILY. DEALERS INSIST TRANSMISSION NEEDS REPLACING (COMMON THEME).NO WAY THOUSANDS OF VEHICLES SHOULD HAVE CATASTROPHIC TRANSMISSION FAILURE AT 70,000! THIS IS A MANUFACTURER AND SAFETY ISSUE. THE ENGINE REVS UP & THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD, EVEN WHEN MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE. THE ENGINE HAS EVEN REVVED UP WHILE THE CAR WAS SITTING IN PARK IN A PARKING LOT. THE CVT TRANSMISSION IN THE 2007 FORD FREESTYLE ARE USELESS. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE HAVING TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION WAY BEFORE TIME. I HAD A 1996 CAMRY WITH 230, 000 MILES ON IT AND I NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION OR THE ENGINE. NOW, I AM LEFT TO REPLACE A TRANSMISSION THAT FORD KNEW WAS A BAD PRODUCT (HENCE, STOPPING THE MANUFACTURING OF THE FREESTYLE, REVAMPING THE TRANSMISSION AND OTHER PROBLEMS AREAS AND PUTTING IT BACK INTO ROTATION AS THE TAURUS X). I STILL OWE ALOT OF MONEY ON THIS CAR. I KNOW THAT FORD FINALLY DID A REBATE OF SORTS FOR THE POORLY DESIGNED THROTTLE BODY AND THANKFUL I HAVE RECEIVED A REFUND FOR THAT EXPENSE. HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR FORD TO COMPENSATE US FREESTYLE OWNERS WITH A HORRIBLY DESIGNED TRANSMISSION? I REALLY WISHED I HAD NEVER GIVEN UP MY TOYOTA CAMRY. I FELT...
I JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR YESTERDAY. IT IDLES SPORADICALLY ON PARK (OFTEN DIES FROM SURGING) AND LUNGES SEVERELY ON DRIVE AND REVERSE. I HAVE TO AVOID PARKING IN FRONT OF OTHER VEHICLES TO PREVENT HITTING THEM AS MY VEHICLE WILL SHOOT FORWARD IMMEDIATELY EVEN WITH MY FOOT OFF THE BREAK. I HAVE TO HIT THE BREAKS FIRMLY AND QUICKLY.
