Consequence: If the shield becomes dislodged, the drain valve may open resulting in a fuel leak. A fuel leak, in the presence of an ignition source, increases the risk of a fire. Under certain conditions, significant liquid fuel on the road surface may cause a slip hazard, increasing the risk of a crash.

The contact owns a 2017 Ford F-250 SD. The contact stated that there was an unknown fluid on the ground underneath the vehicle. The contact started that vehicle and became aware that diesel fuel was leaking from the fuel tank. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that the vehicle was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V778000 (Fuel System, Diesel) and advised the contact to call the NHTSA Hotline. The approximate failure mileage was 69,000.
UNDER AN EMERGENCY STOP, TRAVELING STRAIGHT, MOVING AT OR NEAR 60 MPH, ON HIGHWAY, THREE PASSENGERS AND TOWING A SMALL CAMPING TRAILER (ABOUT #4000), THE FRONT SUSPENSION WENT INTO A VICIOUS SHAKE. RAPID AND SUSTAINED. THIS SHOOK THE ENTIRE TRUCK. THIS FREQUENCY OF THE SHAKE DID NOT CORRESPOND TO THE SPEED OF THE TRUCK AND CONTINUED EVEN AFTER THE TRUCK HAD SLOWED AND THE BRAKES WERE RELEASED.
TIRE FAILURES DURING TOWING LEXANI LT 275/65R20 TIRES ARE STATED TO HAVE 3750 MAX LOAD CAPACITY, 50% OF THE TIRES HAVE FAILED DURING NORMAL TOWING. HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED THE SAME WITH OTHER MANUFACTURERS AND FEEL THESE ARE NOT CAPABLE OF STATED CAPACITY.
