THE CONTACT HAD A REAR ALIGNMENT PERFORMED ON THE TIRE, BUT THE SIDE WALLS BURST ON EACH TIRE. THE CONTACT HAD THE SAME TIRE PLACED ON THE VEHICLE BY THE MANUFACTURER AFTER THE ORIGINAL ONE SPLIT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 250,000.

A FORD MOTOR COMPANY ENGINEER SAID THE 17 INCH TIRES WERE INHERENTLY UNSTABLE AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE TO IMPROVE THE PULLING OF TIRES. OUR OWN MECHANIC DETUNED THE FRONT END ALIEGNMENT WITH IN FACTORY SPECIFIATIONS AND THIS ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE ONLY PROBLEM WAS INCREASE TIRE WEAR.
