The contact owns a 2024 Ford Edge. The contact stated that the hatch of the vehicle was designed to close automatically while the user owned the key fob, with the user's foot underneath the hatch. The contact stated that the hatch had been closing prematurely while the key fob was not near the hatch, and the hatch had hit both the contact and family members on the head. There was no injury sustained. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, but the cause of the failure could not be determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and had sent engineers to diagnose the vehicle, but the engineers could not determine the cause of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.

The contact stated that the Ford Sync infotainment system failed to switch screens, and activated selected operations like the defroster, and displayed a black screen intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed a software failure. The dealer had reset the computer several times; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The manufacturer referred the contract to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 3,000.
