THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE ENGINE FAILED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 58,300.

E PUSHED THE VEHICLE INTO A PARKING LOT AND TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE 10 MINUTES LATER. WHEN HE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE THERE WAS A CLANKING NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE VEHICLE STAYED ON FOR ABOUT 20 SECONDS, AND HE CALLED TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO HIS REGULAR MECHANIC, AND THE MECHANIC INFORMED HIM THAT THE ENGINE FAILED. THE CONTACT WAS WAITING FOR THE MECHANIC TO CALL HIM AND TELL HIM EXACTLY WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE BOTH 96,000.*AK

THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THERE WAS A BAD PORT DESIGN THAT DECREASES THE OIL FLOW TO THE VALVES, IT HEATS UP AND THE ENGINE LOST POWER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, COMPLAINT#16093390 WAS FILED AND THEY STATED THAT THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 60,000.
I PURCHASED A 01' INTREPID R/T IN OCTOBER OF 2006. THE ENGINE FAILED IN MARCH FOR NO EXPLAINED REASON WHILE I WAS DRIVING AT 40 MPH. I FOUND A RECEIPT IN THE CAR STATING THAT THE ENGINE WAS REPLACED AT 89,000 MILES BY ANOTHER USED 3.5L V6 BUT DID NOT SPECIFY THE MILEAGE ON THAT CAR. I PURCHASED THE CAR WITH 95,000 MILES ON IT, AND DROVE IT NORMALLY UNTIL AT ABOUT 99,000 MILES, THE ENGINE FAILED. I WILL REPLACING IT WITH ANOTHER USED ENGINE WITH 48,000 MILES, MAKING THIS THE THIRD ENGINE IN THIS CAR UNDER 100,000 MILES. I TOOK IT TO THE DODGE DEALER TO DIAGNOSE IT, AND THEY STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT TELL ME THE PROBLEM UNLESS THEY TORE THE ENGINE APART AND RECOMMENDED REPLACING THE ENGINE. *JB

I HAVE A 2001 DODGE INTREPID I GOT THE OIL CHANGED ONE DAY THE NEXT IT IS NOT DRIVABLE DUE TO THE TIMING CHAIN GOING OUT DODGE DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THEIR VEHICLES I HAVE TALKED TO THEM I ALSO FOUND OUT THAT THERE ARE 5 INTREPID'S IN A TOWN OF 6500 PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. AND IT TAKES A LOT FOR REPAIR CAUSE OF THE BAD ENGINE DESIGN.*JB
WIFE WAS DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD WHEN THE TEMPERATURE DIAL WENT TO HOT AND CHIMED. WITHIN 2-3 MINUTES OF THE CHIME NOTIFYING MY WIFE OF A PROBLEM, THE ENGINE SEIZED AND STALLED WHILE DRIVING. MY WIFE ROLLED PARTIALLY ONTO A NEARBY DRIVEWAY AND SAW SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. MY WIFE HAD TO PUSH THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND DOWN THE ROAD IN TRAFFIC ABOUT 1/4 OF A MILE, TO A NEARBY HOTEL PARKING LOT TO AWAIT A TOW HOME. THE OWNER OF THE HOME REFUSED TO BE OF ASSISTANCE TO MY WIFE. IN THE PROCESS, MY WIFE RE-INJURED HER LOWER BACK BY PUSHING THE CAR AND SIMULTANEOUSLY HOPPING INTO THE VEHICLE TO NAVIGATE/STEER/BRAKE WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. SHE WAS CURRENTLY UNDER A DOCTOR'S CARE AND BEING TREATED FOR THIS LUMBAR INJURY. THE INTREPID WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE WATER...

THE CONTACT STATED THAT 2 DAYS LATER SHE TRIED TO START THE VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. SHE HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE ENGINE SEIZED DUE TO SLUDGE BUILD UP. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE HAS ALWAYS TAKEN HER VEHICLE FOR OIL CHANGES, AND COULD NOT UNDERSTAND HOW THE ENGINE COULD GO WITH SO FEW MILES AND REGULAR MAINTENANCE. THE CONTACT HAS FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER, AND WILL HAVE FILE # AVAILABLE FOR THE HARD COPY.
I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN I HEARD A METAL ON METAL GRINDING NOISE. BEFORE I COULD PULL THE CAR OUT OF TRAFFIC THE CAR STALLED, THE VEHICLE BECAME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. I CALLED THE CHRYSLER CORP. & INSPITE OF THE FACT THAT THIS CAR HAS LESS THAN 68,000 MILES ON IT, THEY INFORMED ME THAT I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ENTIRE $1,500.00+ REPAIR BILL. *JB

ONE DAY IT STARTED THE TERRIBLE KNOCKING TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY TO A MECHANIC AND HE GAVE ME THE BAD NEWS ABOUT THESE ENGINES .THE 2.7 LITER ENGINE ON MY 2001 DODGE INTREPID FAILED AT 120,000 MILES. I HAVE REGULARLY MAINTAINED THIS VEHICLE, AND THE COSTS OF THE REPAIRS ARE PHENOMENAL ($ 4000 )--AND I AM STILL STUCK WITH THE SAME 2.7 LITER ENGINE. *JB

FIRST THING IS THAT THE RACK AND PINION FAILED. GOT IT REPAIRED AND THEN TIE ROD FELL OFF. WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ONE DAY, THE CAR STARTED SMOKING AND JUST CUT OFF. GOT IT OFF THE ROAD BUT IT WOULD NOT START AFTER THAT. THE CAR ONLY HAS 75,435 MILES ON IT. *JB

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, AND CONCURRED WITH THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE ENGINE REPLACEMENT DUE TO NON-AVAILABILITY OF THE ENGINE COMPONENTS. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN ABOUT THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE MANUFACTURER NOT COMPLYING WITH THE OBLIGATION TO PROVIDE THE NECESSARY PARTS TO PERFORM THE VEHICLE REPAIRS.

PRESSED ON GAS, BUT NO ACCELERATION. CAR STOPPED. TOWED HOME SAME DAY, THEN TOWED TO NASHVILLE DODGE, TN ON 09/11/2006. ON 09/13/2006 SERVICE DEPARTMENT STATED WATER PUMP LEAK INTO OIL PAN, COOLANT COVERED FLOOR, ENGINE SKIPPED TIME. MILKY COLOR IN VALVE TRAIN AS A RESULT. NEED NEW WATER PUMP & NEED NEW ENGINE. *NM
OUR 2001 DODGE INTREPID RAN GOOD UNTIL ABOUT A COUPLE WEEKS AGO. IT JUST STARTED TO RATTLE AND TICK. IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS KNOCKING. WE HAD SEVERAL PEOPLE LOOK AT IT AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE A CLUE. THEN WHEN MY HUSBAND WAS ON HIS WAY HOME FROM WORK IT JUST DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. WE FINALLY GOT IT HOME AND WE NOTICED THAT THE SPARK PLUG ON THE LEFT REAR WAS IN PIECES LIKE IT BLEW UP. I LOOKED IT UP ONLINE AND TURNS OUT TONS OF PEOPLE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. THERE IS A DEFAULT IN THE ENGINE AND CHRYSLER KNOWS ALL ABOUT IT AND DOESN'T CARE. MY HUSBAND IS MILITARY AND HAD NO WAY TO GET TO WORK. IS THERE A LAWSUIT AGAINST THEM? CAN YOU HELP? WHAT SHOULD WE DO? I CAN'T ATTEND SCHOOL ANYMORE OR WORK AND MY STRANDED WITH A BABY...

THE CONTACT MAINTAINED THE VEHICLE'S OIL CHANGES EVERY 3,000-4,000 MILES, YET THE MECHANIC INFORMED THE CONTACT THE OIL WAS VERY THICK. THE DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN INFORMED.
MY 2001 DODGE INTREPID, 2.7L ENGINE DIED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON SATURDAY AUGUST 19TH, THE ENGINE IS SLUDGE AND I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHY THE ENGINE SLUDGE WITH REGULAR OIL CHANGES AND MAINTENANCE. I WAS TOLD THAT MY EXTENDED WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER THIS BECAUSE IT IS SLUDGE. THE COOLANT IS ALL GONE AFTER I JUST REPLACED THE COOLANT BYPASS HOSE DUE TO OVERHEATING. THERE WAS NEVER WHITE SMOKE, NO DRIPPING OIL UNDER THE CAR, NO INDICATOR LIGHT WHEN YOU WERE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, OTHER THAN AN OCCASIONAL FLICKERING WHEN THE CAR WAS IN IDLE. DEALER IS NOW SAYING THE ENGINE IN JUNK AND IT WILL TAKE $5200+ TO FIX. BOOK VALUE DOESN'T SUPPORT REPAIR. ONLY 78,000 MILES. *JB

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO DETERMINED THAT THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ALERTED. *AK

WITH NO WARNING THE ENGINE FAILED. THE CONSEQUENCES OF THIS FAILURE WAS A CATASTROPHIC ENGINE LOSS DUE TO TIMING CHAIN FAILURE ENGINE SLUDGE BUILDUP. THERE WAS NOTHING DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM, AND THE COST OF A NEW ENGINE WAS IN EXCESS OF THE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE. *JB

NO WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED TO INDICATE A FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REMOVED THE OIL PAN AND DETERMINED THE ENGINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED.
IN MAY 2005, MY 2001 INTREPID WITH THE 2.7L ENGINE LEFT US STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD DUE TO OVERHEATING. THE HEATER ALSO WOULD BLOW HOT AIR ONLY HALF THE TIME. I WAS UNAWARE OF THE 2.7L ENGINE PROBLEM. THE CAR ALSO HAD AN OIL LEAK. TOWED THE CAR TO AN AUTHORIZED CHRYSLER DEALER. THIS DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK ON THE CAR AND FOUND QUITE A FEW THINGS WRONG. CONTACTED THE 'EXTENDED' WARRANTY COMPANY AND THEY ADVISED I NEEDED TO TAKE THE CAR TO 'THEIR' AUTHORIZED DEALER. HAD THE CAR TOWED THERE ALSO. THE 'WARRANTY' DEALER ALSO RAN A DIAGNOSTICS ON THE CAR AND ONLY FOUND ABOUT HALF OF THE THINGS WRONG WITH THE CAR. AFTER FIGHTING WITH THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 10 DAYS WITHOUT A VEHICLE, THEY AGREED TO AUTHORIZE THE WORK. THE DEALER FIXED THE HEATING PROBLEM AND REPLACED THE WATER PUMP. THEY ALSO FIXED...

I OWN A 2001 DODGE INTREPID SE WITH THE 2.7 LITER ENGINE AND 88,000 MILES ON IT. I TOOK IT TO THE SHOP YESTERDAY BECAUSE IT SUDDENLY STARTED SOUNDING LIKE A DIESEL ENGINE. THE SHOP CALLED ME LATER THAT MORNING TO INFORM ME THAT ENGINE HAD SLUDGE IN IT, AND THE SOUND I WAS HEARING WAS DAMAGE TO THE TIMING CHAIN , AND THE ENGINE WILL EVENTUALLY BLOW. THE ONLY THING HE CAN DO IS REPLACE THE ENGINE AT A COST OF OVER $6200.00. AT 42,000 MILES I TOOK CAR TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE BECAUSE HEATER WAS BLOWING COLD AIR WHEN I CAME TO A STOP LIGHT BUT WOULD BLOW HOT AIR WHEN I WAS DRIVING. THEY SAID THAT I HAD A BLOWN HEAD GASKET AND REPLACED IT BECAUSE IT WAS UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. NOW THIS HAPPENS. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND STRONGLY VOICED MY DISPLEASURE ABOUT THEIR PRODUCT....
ENGINE FAILED WHILE TRAVELING ON FREEWAY WITH NO WARNING. APPARENTLY SAME PROBLEM AS OTHER 2001 DODGE INTREPIDS - OIL SLUDGE CAUSING ENGINE FAILURE DUE TO POOR DESIGN. CURRENTLY WITH DEALER IN HOPES OF REPAIR. STILL OWE $4,400 DOLLARS ON WORTHLESS CAR AS ENGINE IS GONE. *JB
I WAS DRIVING MY 2201 DODGE INTREPID AND THE ENGINE FAILED. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED IT, AND WAS TOLD IT WAS DUE TO SLUDGE BUILD UP. MY EXTENDED WARRANTY WON'T COVER THE DAMAGE AND THE DEALERSHIP IS ASKING FOR $4,084.00 TO PUT A RE-BUILT ENGINE IN IT. MY CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 70,000 MILES ON IT. I ALSO PRODUCED RECEIPTS/PRINTOUTS FOR MAINTENANCE (OIL CHANGES) PERFORMED ON MY VEHICLE. PRIOR TO THE CAR STOPPING, THERE WAS NO WARNING OF ANY TYPE ~ NO OIL OR ENGINE LIGHT TO WARN OF A POTENTIAL PROBLEM. *JB
8/13/02-WE TOOK OUR 2001 DODGE INTREPID 2.7L IN TO THE DEALER FOR WARRANTY REPAIR. THE HEADLAMPS WERE CHANGE BECAUSE OF FOGGING LENS COVERS. THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS WHINING SO THAT WAS ALSO REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD 31,207 MILES. 1/14/03-WITH 36,354 MILES ON IT WE HAD THE REAR GLASS REPLACED BECAUSE THE DEFROSTER WAS NOT WORKING. NO COST FOR THIS. ALSO HAD THEM CHECK A KNOCKING NOISE IN THE FRONT END BUT THEY COULD NOT DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. 12/16/03-47,658 MILES. ENGINE LIGHT ON FOR A PROBLEM IN THE EVAP SYSTEM. DEALER FIXED IT FOR $248.69. WE HAD THEM CHECK FOR THE FRONT END KNOCK BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND A PROBLEM. THEY ALSO RECOMMENDED THAT WE HAVE THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER LOOKED AT. I DID NOT ASK THEM TO CHECK THAT AT ALL SINCE EVERYTHING SEEMED FINE AT THE TIME. LOOKING BACK I CAN SEE THAT THEY WERE TRYING TO...
2001 DODGE INTREPID 2.7 ENGINE DIED WHILE DRIVING FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN 400 MILES THE DAY BEFORE AND PERFORMED FLAWLESSLY. THIS ENGINE FAILURE WAS NOT A CONDITION OF POOR MAINTENANCE AND ESTIMATED REPAIR COSTS ARE $5300.00 AND EXCEED THE RESALE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE. THIS ENGINE FAILURE COULD HAVE BEEN A SEVERE SAFETY FACTOR IF IT HAD FAILED 24 HOURS SOONER ON THE TOLL ROAD AT HIGH SPEED. *JB
DT: THE CONTACTS STATED SMOKE EMANATED FROM THE ENGINE, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF. SHE CONTACTED THE DEALER, WHO STATED S THERE WAS OIL SLUG BUILT UP IN THE MOTOR. THE DEALER INSISTED THAT THE CONTACT DID NOT CHANGE THE OIL OFTEN ENOUGH. THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. THERE WAS NO PRIOR WARNING. THE DEALER OFFERED NO FREE REMEDY. *AK

THEY TOLD HER TO SHOW PROOF OF ALL OF THE OIL CHANGES SHE HAD DONE ON THE CAR ,AND THEY WOULD TAKE IT UP FROM THERE. THE MECHANIC TOLD HER THE OIL WAS VERY...
ENGINE BEGAN MAKING A TAPPING NOISE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT MOTOR WAS FULL OF SLUDGE AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED AND THAT CHRYSLER EXTENDED WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR. HAD VEHICLE REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT AUTO REPAIR SHOP - REPLACED TIMING CHAIN, TENSIONER, OIL PUMP. COST OF REPAIR APPROX. $2450. OLD PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. *NM
