DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 1998 DODGE INTREPID. THE ENGINE STALLED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AT A STEADY SPEED AT 40 MPH. THE ENGINE DID RESTART AT ABOUT 30-40 MINUTES LATER. THIS HAPPENED 8 TIMES SINCE THIS BEGAN 3 WEEKS AGO. TODAY THE DEALER REPLACED A CRANK SENSOR, BUT AS OF YET SHE HAS NOT DRIVEN THE VEHICLE TO SEE IF IT WAS REPAIRED. *AK
MY 1998 DODGE INTREPID 2.7L 6 CYL. HAS A PROBLEM WITH THE IDLE SPEED. IT ALMOST ACTS LIKE THE CAR IS OUT OF TIMING BUT THIS ONLY OCCURES AFTER THE CAR IS AT RUNNING TEMPERATURE. MANY OTHER THINGS HAVE GONE WRONG BUT WOULD TAKE ME THE REST OF THE NIGHT TO EXPLAIN THEM ALL. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE WIRE TO THE OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT. I HAD TO FIX THE CLIP ON MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW. MY ROTORS ALLWAYS FEEL LIKE THEY ARE WARPED AND SHAKE WHEN I SLOW DOWN. I'M STUCK ON WHAT TO DO ABOUT THIS ENGINE FAILURE THING BECAUSE MY WIFE AND I STILL HAVE AROUND $4000 TO PAY ON THE CAR. IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING. *AK

CRUISE CONTROL DISENGAGES INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. NEED TO SHUT OFF ENGINE AND RESTART TO RE-ENGAGE CRUISE CONTROL. HAVE BEEN TO THE DEALER 3 TIMES PREVIOUSLY. FIRST TWO TIMES DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE PROBLEM. DEALER REPLACED COAST SWITCH ON THIRD VISIT. PROBLEM REOCCURED AFTER THIS PART WAS REPLACED.*AK

CONTACTED DEALER, WHO WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK *MJ THE VEHICLE WAS HIT ON FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. THE IMPACT PUSHED THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE TOWARDS THE DRIVER SIDE. THE ENGINE, THE CRUISE CONTROL AND THE FUEL THROTTLE WERE DAMAGED. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR CABLE WAS STUCK IN FULL THROTTLE. *YH
VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AFTER SHIFTING INTO DRIVE WITH FOOT ON BRAKES. VEHICLE HIT A TREE. ALSO, STEERING LOCKED UP. MANUFACTURER SENDING INSPECTOR TO CHECK VEHICLE. *AK
VEHICLE EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHILE PARKED AND PUTTING VEHICLE INTO GEAR, RESULTING IN COLLISION WITH SEVERAL PARKED VEHICLES. (N.C. COLLISION REPORT) *MJS

CONSUMER PUT FOOT ON BRAKE, CHANGED GEARS FROM PARK TO DRIVE AND VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD WITH GREAT FORCE, HITTING CURB AND CORNER OF TRUCK THAT WAS IN FRONT WHILE THE CONSUMER CONTINUED BRAKING. DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, FOUND VEHICLE TO BE OPERATING PROPERLY. 2 OTHER INCIDENTS HAVE SINCE OCCURRED. *AK *ML

THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION WHILE ENTERING A HIGHWAY. THE THROTTLE WAS STUCK WIDE OPEN FORCING ME TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE WITH THE BRAKES. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AT THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AN ATTEMPT TO RESTART RESULTED IN THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY RUNNING AT FULL THROTTLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND AFTER A WEEK OF INVESTIGATION THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM AND NO CORRECTIVE ACTION WAS TAKEN (DEALER INVOICE #23117).
