Defect: Forest River, Inc. (Forest River) is recalling certain 2003-2018 Forest River Berkshire, Charleston, Rockport, Cedar Creek, Cherokee, Riverstone, Salem, Sandpiper, Sierra, Vengeance, Wildcat, Wildwood, XLR Boost, Cargo Mate, Continental Cargo, motorhomes, recreational trailers, toyhaulers, cargo trailers and restroom trailers and 2009-2018 Coachmen Mirada, Pursuit, Concord, Leprechaun, Freelander, Orion and Prism motorhomes, 2009-2017 Coachmen Apex and Catalina recreational trailers, and 2013-2017...

Consequence: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.

FIRST, THE RV HAS AN ELECTRICAL SIDE STEP TO ENTER THE COACH. TWO SPOT WELDS HOLDING UP THE 200 LBS PLUS STEP CAME APART AND WAS HELD ONLY BY THE OTHER SIDE WHICH WAS HELD ALSO BY TWO SPOT WELDS. THE STEP IS INSTALLED IN FRONT OF THE DUAL REAR TIRES. IF THE STEP HAD COME OFF IT WOULD HAVE DAMAGED THE REAR TIRES AND ALSO MAY HAVE CAUSED DAMAGE OR AN ACCIDENT BY A VEHICLE TRAVELING BEHIND THE RV. SOLUTION WOULD BE TO BOLT THE STEP ON OR WELD THE ATTACHMENT PLATE USING MORE THAN JUST TWO SPOT WELDS.SINCE THERE WAS NO WAY TO BOLT THE STEP TO THE RV, ADDITIONAL WELDS WERE PLACED ON THE ATTACHMENT PLATE. SECOND SAFETY ISSUE. THE UNIT CAME WITH A JENSEN VR209TP, THREE CAMERA VIDEO SYSTEM (RIGHT SIDE AND LEFT SIDE CAMERA AND ONE REAR CAMERA). THE IMAGES WERE BLACK AND WHITE AND THE IMAGES ON THE MONITOR HAVE ALWAYS BEEN VERY POOR. DURING THE DAYTIME ESPECIALLY, IF THERE IS A SHADOW CREATED BY THE SUN THE MONITOR SHOWS A BLACK SHADOW ON THE MONITOR AND THIS PREVENT BEING ABLE TO SEE ANOTHER VEHICLE OR A PERSON OR CHILD BEHIND THE COACH. I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT BECAUSE I GET MY WIFE TO GET OUT OF THE COACH AND CHECK THE BACK OF THE RV FOR ANY HAZARD. I HAVE RECENTLY FOUND OUT THIS IS A COLOR MONITOR AND THE RV MANUFACTURER PUT BLACK AND WHITE CAMERAS ON A COLOR MONITOR. APPARENTLY, THIS WAS DONE TO SAVE MONEY FOR THE MANUFACTURER AND AS A RESULT IT HAS CREATED A SAFETY HAZARD. I AM IN THE PROCESS OF GETTING SOME TYPE OF RESOLUTION FOR THIS ISSUE WITH THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER. A BLACK AND WHITE MONITOR SHOULD NEVER BE PUT ON A RV OR ANY VEHICLE. I AM SIMPLY REPORTING THIS BECAUSE I AM SURE THAT THIS ABOVE MENTIONED ISSUE INVOLVED OTHER COACHMAN VEHICLES. *TR
