I was pulling up behind a vehicle that was entering the highway when I noticed that the driver had to yield to oncoming traffic and did not continue driving. I applied my brakes, but the vehicle did not come to a complete stop, and as a result, I struck the vehicle in front of me. My safety was put at risk, as this could have resulted in a major accident. Additionally, my car insurance premiums increased because of this incident. I was never informed about the recall, nor did I receive any phone calls or mail notifications regarding it. I only became aware of the recall recently after seeing posts on social media, which prompted me to contact my dealership. Upon doing so, I was advised that my vehicle does in fact have an active recall. I don't have any warning lamps or anything advising me of this issue.
For the last month or so, occasionally when I am going anywhere around 30-60 and I press the brakes, the vehicle will lose power for a few seconds and Stabilitrak is activated. It has locked up the brakes twice in the last 2 weeks when I was parking and could have caused an accident and if it happens when I am driving, I worry that it will cause an accident. I did some research and saw that there is a recall on my year and model. The symptoms it describes are exactly what my truck is doing but when I put in my VIN, it does not show the recall on my truck.
There is a recall (N182202780) for certain models of gm apparently, but my truck does not fall under the recall though it is the same exact problem with the brake vacuum. When pumping my brake pedal, my brakes become almost non responsive, causing me to back into my secondary vehicle.
We had a auto shop do work and left are breaks lose And they do not tighten bolts both break calibers were lose and according to the lawyer we spoke with they do not have a business licenses Triad Transmission & Auto Repair 244 NC-22, Ramseur, NC 27316 Junior akins and John kearns
Vacuum pump intermittent failure. Not always but during periods of traffic the brakes get stiff and I have a service brake assist notification come on. Then it goes away and all braking is functional and fine
ABS system and trailer brakes lights on dashboard come on and until the truck is off and sits for awhile the abs will start working again. Have had several shops look at it and have heard several different things. Started with the cheaper side of things and still no luck for a solution.
The 2016 silverado LTZ 5.3L flex fuel lifters went out at 83k miles. I was left standed and had to be towed. I have researched that this is a known GM issue with the 5.3L motors, but I was told because I was outside the warranty that I had to pay the $8000 repair bill for a new motor. This is one a GM issue and a safety issue because I had sudden no power while I was driving and with no warning. The second issue is that the brakes have a serious shake and vibration that the dealership told be they were fine, but it is very hard to stop the vehicle with a tremendous about of force I had to place on the brake peddle. The life of this vehicle has had all services done at Jim Mckay Chevrolet in Fairfax VA. I could not afford the repair...
While tapping brakes to park in tight spaces or inching up in a drive thru, the brake pedal shudders and gets stiff. It's extremely hard to stop the truck.
Vacuum pump defect
The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the steering and brake systems warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where the warning lights were cleared; however, the failure recurred. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V761000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic, Service Brakes, Electronic Stability Control (ESC). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 138,000.
it is available and the brakes and steering is very stiff my safety no brakes no it hasnt been serviced at a dealership no inspections by dealership they appeared all at once on 10/11/24 no warning lamps
I was driving my 2016 silverado high country 1500 with my travel trailer when the brakes stopped working making it extremely difficult to stop at a traffic light. Dashboard says service trailer brake system. I checked fuses and connections and turn truck on and off and issue is unresolved.
Abs stabalink light come on and off, shaking of wheel when applying brakes, changed rotors last year thought that was problem had a little brakes pedal shake.
Unknown. There is times when parking my truck. I press on the brake paddle and it sound and feels like my truck jerks at first before it brakes. This has been going on for almost the 8 years I’ve own the truck. Also I have only owned the truck for 8 years and my paint is already peeling off. It doesn’t have anything to do with the brakes. I just had my truck serviced the brakes and drums. It still does it.
I have found that when pressing my brake pedal, it gets very very hard and the truck doesn’t want to stop unless I’m practically standing on the brake pedal. My mechanic has been through the entire system and believes the issue stems from a faulty Vacuum pump. This is apparently a standing recall for my 2016 Silverado but when I supply my vin number it says that I have no unrepaired recalls. At no point has Chevrolet ever notified me that this recall needed to be completed. But my problem is exactly the same as the problems noted on the recall
When turning at low speeds the steering locks up, stabilitrack warning lights come on, entire dash and information center starts blinking then vehicle chutes down causing total loss of control.
Brake pedal hard to push down. Almost drove through shop door, going slow. Heavy equipment and cdl class A driver over 40 years. Fluid is full, brake pads and related items are correct. Shut engine off waited few minutes, seemed ok. It did it again immediately, hard two other drivers try with similar results. Odd noise coming from under hood when pedal is applied. No leaks observed or detected. Pedal is solid near top no fade at all.
The failing system is the hydraulic brake system. The brakes are failing in my vehicle causing it hard to stop, and having to press extremely hard on the brake for extended periods of time in order to properly stop. As I first push on the brakes I hear a squeak. Yes my vehicle is available for inspection any time. My safety as well as my four daughters safety has been at risk of a crash due to the hardness of trying to break or the vehicle not coming to a stop in time. Yes the problem has been confirmed by a local mechanic. There have no been any inspections in regards to manufacture, police officers, etc. My warning light and another light have previously came on and will later go off, it does not stay on continuously.
While driving my truck I was in line picking up my kids from school when pulling up close to the car infront of me my brakes got extremely hard and the truck kept slowly moving forward so I pressed harder to make sure I wouldn't accidentally hit the car. I just now saw a recall on the vacuum pump which in assuming is my issue with the harding of the brakes. I have not took it any where to be investigated yet
1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Response: Slowing down to make a left turn, Steering locked up, Electrical devices flashing, Service Stabilitrak Indicator, Chimming, Engine shut off then turned back on 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? Response: YES truck shut off when turning across traffic 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Response: Has the problem been reproduced -Yes Response: confirmed by a dealer or independent service center -No 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Response: No 5: Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? Response: Yes, chimming, then Service Stabilitrak indicator, then steering wheel lock up, engine cut...
ok the problem is with the brakes, there were four incidents when the brake pedal gets hard and its hard to stop the truck. all four incidents happened backing into my driveway after stepping on the brake pedal 4 to 5 times it would hard. and it would be difficult to stop. The problem is with the brake booster vacuum pump. There was a recall for that exact problem on 2014-2018 silverados. I called the dealership, they told me my VIN # was not one of the listed ones for the recall. the vehicle is available for inspection if requested. the vehicle has not been inspected or confirmed by a dealer. there were no warnings lamps or messagesl. Im certain its the brake booster vacuun pump.
low RPM braking failure. Power assistance fails at low RPM (around 500 - 600) requiring me to apply full body weight to brake pedal to get vehicle to slow and stop. This is a well known and documented problem, but NHTSA won't extend a recall for this issue even when issuing recalls for same problem on other GM trucks, why?
Truck does not stop have to apply hard brakes and even then truck won’t come to a complete stop
The truck has had its major service to replace all fluids at 70,000 miles. One of the services was a notable vibration and shaking through the steering wheel and on the brakes. Higher the speed the more the vibration. When brakes are applied the vibration gets worse. The vehicles brakes and rotors were checked and good. The mechanic said that the brake pump was slightly loose and it was tightened. It did slightly ease the vibration, but less that a few days later it is back to the same vibrating. The brake power feels weak and when I need to brake I feel like the vehicle is not stopping. I have owner a 2014 Silverado before this and did not have this issue. I took it back to the dealer and they did an alignment which did not help.
My 2016 Chevy Silverado had intermittent hard braking. Especially at slower speeds the brake pedal would get very hard to press and needed a lot of effort to stop. I was especially concerned having newer drivers in my household that the truck was unsafe. I nearly hit others vehicles especially at stoplights and in parking lots. The vehicle was taken to the GM dealer who said it was under recall and completed the repairs. However even though the recall repairs were completed the vehicle still continued to have hard braking issues. It was not resolved until I had the brake vacuum booster pump replaced by a 3rd party as GM was unwilling to complete the repair under the recall
Backing up truck to put a boat in the water and no brakes had put push really hard to stop the truck from going in to the lake. When moving slowly there is hardly any brakes on the truck
Trailer brake system warning has been flashing non stop for 2 weeks. I do not use or tow anything with this vehicle. Usually it locks up the steering wheel while parking my truck and shuts down the engine. Yesterday I was going 55 on the highway and the warning came on and it shut down the truck tried to put the vehicle in park and rapidly applied the breaks then the truck electrical system came back too and the truck was rolling I pull off to the shoulder to shut the truck off and turn it back on. At the time I had both my sons in the vehicle 4 years old and 9 months. Again usually it always happens when parking my truck (under 5mph) it will lock the steering wheel and totally shut down the trucks engine. Huge safety concern.
Backing up slowly with/without a trailer and have to pump the brakes to stop or stand on the brakes or pumping the brakes and having to use the emergency brake to stop, rev up the engine, put in reverse and have to do the previous steps all over again. This only happens going slowly in reverse. I was told by a mechanic it could be the vacuum pump or TSB on the vacuum pump. No warning messages display. This is a safety risk to myself and others and could cause an accident.
Barking system. it seams like when I’m in the city the brakes will not engage properly, at some point I’ve had to use the emergency brake to stop. on the freeway the brakes work good but when running at low rpm it’s like the brakes go to the floor and the truck is still moving. I went to get my brakes inspected and brake pads are still good, brake fluid was good. They told me to bring it in when the brakes fail again so they could see what was happening. Transmission was replace at 65000 miles because of a faulty torque converter
No brakes at low speed. Problem persists after recall. Needs a vacuum pump. Known problem with Chevrolet and they won’t replace it.
I was in a drive thru food chain going forward slowly. The brakes seemed hard and I had to really push hard to get the vehicle to stop. I went to a private mechanic who I trust totally. I had the front rotors and all pads replaced due to normal wear. We went on a trip with no braking issues. After returning home and backing down the driveway the brakes seemed hard again and was not stopping the vehicle properly. There were no warning lights on. This only seems to occur at very low speeds and is an alarming when it happens. I have been told by a dealership that there are no recalls on this vehicle. However looking on line I have seen videos and articles about faulty vacuum pumps and braking modules that needed reprogramming that effect braking as I have described. I don't want to take this...
AFTER DRIVING FOR 4 HOURS BRAKES WONT WORK PROPERLY, BRAKING POWER DECREASES AND IS REALLY HARD TO STOP.
Was driving got up to stop sign the belt made a squaling noise and the brake pedal was hard brakes failed and i couldnt stop
My 2016 Chevy Silverado is experiencing the same low speed braking problem that occurs mostly at low speeds like driving in parking lots or stop and go traffic as defined in 19V-645 and N192268490. Driving at these speeds and braking feels like the brakes are completely failing and require excessive force on the brake pedal to stop. What do I do?
I was door dashing then a service alert came on the dash… I had pulled over to check what it meant about the trailer brake system. I have never towed or have a trailer to tow around! So continued to drive then my truck cut off then cut on while I was trying to make a turn. Then I pulled over again and luckily a mechanic said it’s wiring that’s defected in my truck and I need to get fix! I don’t have no money to get this fix , is there a way I can get some assistance with this?
I had brakes fixed from recall But they were not properly fixed they gave out on me again barely going 5 miles an hour I hit the back of some one They still are not working properly.
ABS is activated at low speed. Hard pedal and stopping is almost impossible at speeds less than 5 MPH in forward or reverse drive.
At low speeds, the brake pedal requires much more effort but doesn't engage as quickly as normal driving, so the car still rolls forward even though the brake pedal is fully depressed. This is problematic when parking or at stop signs or stop lights. Plus, it is very dangerous.
When backing out of a parking spot or driving slow breaks almost do not work Will barely stop the the vehicle
1. The brake vacuum failed. 2. Mine and other drivers safety was put at risk because the vehicle was unable to come to a complete stop even when brake pedal was fully engaged. 3. The problem has been since fixed by a mechanic, before we knew of a previous recall on this particular issue. 4. There were no warnings displayed.
Trailer break warning keeps going off. Service trailer break
On 09/22/2022, the power assist for the brakes suddenly and without warning failed during slow forward and reverse maneuvering in a parking lot, resulting in an increase in brake pedal pressure and travel to slow and stop the vehicle. Contact with a proximate vehicle was narrowly avoided. A service brakes message appeared in the central information panel between the tachometer and speedometer. Turning off the ignition and then turning the ignition switch back to start the vehicle extinguished the service brake message, and power assist for the brakes returned to nominal function. This occurrence is a safety of driving concern because of its sudden onset without warning and the need to immediately compensate with the application of significantly increased brake pedal pressure to slow and stop the vehicle. A corresponding increase in braking distance was not measured but was distinctly noticed.
At low speeds the brakes become hard and vehicle will not stop requiring increased stopping distance. It appears there is a recall for this, but my VIN does not seem to be included. Reference NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000.
While back 1,200 pound boat and trailer down a boat ramp, the brake pedal sank to the floor and the vehicle kept rolling. I had to pump it several times to stop it. This has happened every time I go to a boat ramp. Brakes seem to work great other than low speed backing up. I'm scared I might get pulled into the water if I ever tow whatbmy truck is rated for at 11,000 pounds. Please advise.
I had to replace the transmission and pay out of pocket because my transmission went out due to the recalls that was never sent to me and I was never notified until now.
Trailer braking system kept indicating that it needed service. While pulling an RV trailer the brakes would pulsate (especially going downhill). This resulted in several “uncomfortable” and dangerous braking situations. The module has been replaced, but the dealership kept the defective part so it is not available for inspection. The dealership saw the message being displayed and diagnosed the event prior to replacing the part. This component should have been covered under a national recall as it is a safety hazard!
Reoccurring trailer brake system alerts. Occurs when trailer is both hooked up and not hooked up.
Service trailer brake warning system activating intermittently without a trailer attached. Dashboard message center displays "service trailer brake system" alarm chime activation sounds. Repair facility diagnostics indicate the wiring harness between the BCM’s and brake system has a fault / defect issue. I was advised this is common issue with this vehicle and presents a severe safety concern with a braking system and require immediate repair for my safety. The repairs are not covered under a TSB or recall notice from Chevrolet.
Service trailer brake system and stalilitrak warning continually pops up due to faulty wiring
