TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER TAKING THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER FOR NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING: ELECTRONIC POWER ASSISTS SYSTEM) THE VEHICLE STARTED MAKING A CLICKING SOUND WHENEVER HE MADE A LEFT TURN. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES BEFORE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM UNTIL AFTER THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE A PROBLEM BEFORE THE RECALL REPAIR WAS DONE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO REFUSED TO PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THEY DO NOT BELIEVED THE FAILURE WAS CAUSE BY THE RECALL REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE POWER STEERING COLUMN WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND INFORMED HER THAT THE VIN WAS PREVIOUSLY INCLUDED IN THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V073000 (STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSISTS SYSTEM) AND REPAIRED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THERE WAS AN UNEXPECTED LOSS OF POWER STEERING, AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED. THE VEHICLE VEERED INTO THE LEFT DIRECTION UNCONTROLLABLY, AND TURNED PARTIALLY ONTO ITS DRIVER SIDE AND THEN LANDED BACK ONTO THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL WITH THE POWER STEERING RESETTING ON ITS OWN. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DETECT A PROBLEM. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER A PREVIOUS RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V073000 (STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 1,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN DRIFTING TO THE RIGHT. THE CONTACT GAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND APPLIED THE BRAKES. WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO DRIFT BACK TO THE RIGHT AND ROLL OVER. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INJURED DURING THE CRASH AND WAS ABLE TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. UPON PURCHASING THE VEHICLE THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THE VEHICLE HAD A RECALL FOR THE STEERING ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM (10V073000) AND WAS REPAIRED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON AND THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. WHEN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS PERFORMED THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL. THE DEALER ORDERED THE PART; HOWEVER, IT WOULD TAKE SEVEN TO TEN BUSINESS DAYS TO ARRIVE. THE CONTACT STATED...
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 CHEVROLET COBALT. THE CONTACT REFERENCED RECALL 10V073000 (STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM). THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE AND THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE LOST POWER STEERING AND THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER. THREE PASSENGERS WERE INJURED AS A RESULT. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED HAND, BACK, NECK AND CHEST INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS AT A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 17,000.

THE REPAIR FOR THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED AT THE DEALERSHIP AFTER THE INCIDENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 12,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 12,300.

THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED AND THE STEERING COMPONENT WAS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. THE REPAIR DID NOT REMEDY THE FAILURE.
