TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 ACURA MDX. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE REQUIRED EXCESSIVE FORCE IN ORDER TO SHIFT GEARS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE GEAR SHIFT CABLE WAS LUBRICATED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED A FEW MONTHS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT CABLE WAS COVERED WITH RUST AND THE FAILURE WAS A DESIGN FLAW. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED TWICE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED LITTLE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WITH THE REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000. UPDATED 11/01/11*LJ UPDATED 11/30/11

HELLO, I AM A VERY FRUSTRATED ACURA MDX OWNER. I HD PURCHASED 2005 ACURA MDX BRAND NEW. I USD THE SUV FOR 3 YEARS WHEN I STARTED HEARING A "VIBRATION" OR "JUDDER"NOISE WHILE CRUISING BETWEEN 20-45 MILES PER HOUR. IN DECEMBER 2010, I RECEIVED A RECALL AND WAS VERY HAPPY THAT THE ISSUE WILL BE RESOLVED. I TOOK THE RECALL NOTICE SENT BY HONDA MOTORS AND WENT TO THE ALHAMBRA, CA ACURA DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP UPDATED THE PCM A/T SOFTWARE . THE CAUSE IN THE WORK ORDER WAS MENTIONED AS PRODUCT UPDATE - PM UPDATE FOR LOCK-UP CLUTCH FUNCTION. SOFTWARE UPDATE S/B# 09-037. I GOT IT UPDATE WITHIN 3 HOURS AND FINALLY FELT HAPPY THAT MY SUV WILL BE RUNNING FINE. TO MY UTTER DISMAY, I FOUND THE SAME PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. MY TRANSMISSION FAILED . I DRIVE AN AVERAGE OF 80 MILES TO AND FROM WORK. MOST OF IT WAS HIGHWAY DRIVING. I WOULD NOTICE SOME HESITATION AT LOW SPEEDS IN ABOUT 50,000 MILES BUT WOULD GO AWAY. AT APPROXIMATELY 100,000 MILES THE PROBLEMS STARTED GETTING MORE NOTICEABLE.THE TIME LEADING TO THE EVENTUAL FAILURE OF MY TRANSMISSION WAS A SHUDDER DURING LOW SPEEDS BETWEEN 20 TO 40 MILES PER HOUR. TRANSMISSION ROUGH AND NOISY STARTING ON 35 MPH. IT NEEDS A TORQUE CONVERTER AND TRANSMISSION REPLACED. THESE CAR IS BECOME DANGERS TO DRIVE, YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT ANY MOMENT. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL DUE TO MANY MANY OTHER OWNERS HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. WE TOOK OUR 2005 MDX (89K MILES) FOR THE TORQUE CONVERTER RECALL ABOUT A MONTH AGO. AFTER THEY "FIXED IT" WE NOTICED IT WAS STILL SHUTTERING. SO, WE TOOK IT BACK TO THEM AND THEY REMOVED THE TRANSMISSION, REPLACED A FEW OTHER THINGS AND THE SHUTTER WENT AWAY. THAT WAS 3 WEEKS AGO. TODAY, I WAS DRIVING AND NOTICED THE D5 LIGHT STARTED BLINKING. IN REVIEWING OTHER INTERNET POSTS, IT CAN MEAN THE TRANSMISSION IS GOING OUT OR A SWITCH IS OVERHEATING/FAILING. 2005 MDX. WITHIN ONE YEAR OF PURCHASE, A HIGH PITCHED RINGING WAS IDENTIFIED TO THE ACURA DEALER. SOUND WAS DISMISSED AS NORMAL. FOR THE NEXT FOUR YEARS THE SOUND RECURRED ON ACCELERATION AND UPHILL DRIVING. AT 64,000 MILES THE RINGING SOUND WAS DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER TO BE A FAILING TORQUE CONVERTER. TORQUE CONVERTER WAS REPLACED BY THE DEALER (WARRANTY). ONE YEAR LATER, THE TRANSMISSION BEGAN MAKING A RUMBLING SOUND WHILE ACCELERATING BETWEEN TWENTY AND THIRTY FIVE MILES/HOUR. ALSO, THE RINGING NOISE RE-EMERGED. CAR WAS TAKEN TO DEALER. DEALER INFORMED US THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON OUR MDX REGARDING THE RUMBLING PROBLEM--TOLD IT IS AN ELECTRONIC PROBLEM REQUIRING A ONE HOUR FIX. MY 2005 ACURA MDX HAS ENCOUNTERED PROBLEMS WHERE THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPS WHEN THE BRAKE IS APPLIED AND FAILS TO ACCELERATE SMOOTHLY (THE CAR LURCHES DURING ACCELERATION). THIS USUALLY OCCURS AT SLOWER SPEEDS (<30MPH). THIS HAS OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. ACURA SERVICE HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM DESPITE OUR PLEAS TO FIND THE PROBLEM. SOMETIMES THE PROBLEM IS AMELIORATED WHEN THE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, SIMILAR TO A COMPUTER REBOOT. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT, TODAY, DID NOT RECTIFY ITSELF WHEN THE CAR WAS RESTARTED. AFTER 3 WEEKS OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE, I STARTED EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM AS MANY OWNERS HAVE REPORTED - ENGINE / TRANSMISSION MAKES SHUDDERING NOISE WHEN ACCELERATING BETWEEN 30 - 45 MPH. THE SAME NOISE OCCURS WHEN THE VEHICLE DOWN-SHIFTS OR CRUISE AT THE SAME SPEED. THE ODOMETER WAS AT APPROXIMATELY 68,000 MILES WHEN THE NOISE STARTED TO SURFACE. THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE REPLACEMENT TRANSMISSION WAS NEW BUT UPON SPEAKING WITH THE MANUFACTURER, HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS RE-MANUFACTURED. AROUND 40,000 MILES MY ACURA MDX 2005 BEGAN MAKING A LOW GROANING NOISE AT 25MPH AND 35 MPH TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND FOUND IT WAS THE TORQUE CONVERTER. BEGINNING IN 2006 I STARTED TO EXPERIENCE A HESITATION AND A HISSING SOUND IN MY 2005 ACURA MDX AT HWY AND LOCAL RD SPEED FOR THE PAST THREE YEARS I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP ONLY TO GET THE SAME RESPONSE OF UNABLE TO DUPLICATE. THE VEHICLE JERKED BACKWARDS AND STRUCK A CONCRETE POLE APPROXIMATELY 2 FEET AWAY. THE VEHICLE AUTOMATICALLY SHIFTED INTO DRIVE, SURGED FORWARD, AND STRUCK ANOTHER CONCRETE POLE. BOTH AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE PASSENGER IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WAS TRAPPED AND UNABLE TO OPEN THE DOOR. THE POLICE, AMBULANCE, AND FIRE DEPARTMENTS ARRIVED AT THE SCENE. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE CONTACT HAD BURNS AND CUTS ON HER ARMS AND FACE AND A SWOLLEN RIGHT KNEE. SHE WILL HAVE TO UNDERGO THERAPY ON HER NECK AND KNEE. THE PASSENGER WAS BADLY BRUISED.
