Bulletin Summary
ISSUE Some 2013-2014 Focus ST, Fusion, Escape and MKZ vehicles equipped with a 2.0L gasoline turbocharged direct injection (GTDI) engine and built on 9/1/2012 and through 8/1/2013 may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code (DTC) P2096 (post catalyst fuel trim system too lean bank 1) stored in powertrain control module (PCM) memory. This may be due to engine oil migrating from the variable valve timing (VVT) oil control solenoids through the engine wire harness to the catalyst monitor sensor (CMS).
About Technical Service Bulletins
A Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) is a document issued by a vehicle manufacturer to its dealers, describing a known issue with a specific vehicle or set of vehicles and the recommended procedure to fix it. Unlike recalls, TSBs are not mandatory and are typically only performed if an owner reports the related issue. However, TSBs can be an indicator of common problems with a vehicle.
