NHTSA Complaint #11715213 — 2017 FORD F-150

Transmission Valve Body and Lead Frame. With just under 80,000 miles I was traveling on the interstate with my family when the transmission suddenly downshifted, causing the truck to go into a slide at 70mph. Luckily, there were no other vehicles around us and I was able to get the vehicle under control without going off the road or hitting anything. After stopping, checking to see what might have been wrong (no warning lights at the time.), we continued on without incident. A few weeks later, the same thing happened again as I was coming home from work. The check engine light came on and the transmission was locked in 2nd gear. I called a local shop that has Ford certified mechanics and found out this was a common problem, and due to it being a common problem, there was limited parts available to remedy the problem. I ended up having to have the transmission valve body and lead frame replaced as well as the filter and fluid. $1806.35 In both cases, when the transmission downshifted to 2nd, it put me and my family in very dangerous situation. We got lucky! I had everything repaired at my expense and didn't report anything at the time until I saw an article that reported that this had happened to many other people. It is something that Ford should address, and any vehicles that haven't already had this fixed, should be fixed at Ford's expense. Also, what about the people that have had this replaced, such as myself, are we certain the new main frames and valve bodies won't fail in time?
