Consumer Description
Engine losing 60% to 50% of its oil capacity at 5000-6000 miles with 40-50% life left in the vehicles built in maintenance minder. This has been a trend since 25,000 miles. By this math, vehicle would have minimal oil, if any at all, when vehicle says service is due. Creates a high probability for catastrophic failure at speed and increases smoke / condensation from the exhaust in colder weather. Dealer states this is a common problem, manufacture has adjusted their oil consumption standards to make this a "normal" amount despite the risk of failure and injury at speed.
