Consumer Description
Summary of the Problem: The passenger side front (left passenger) door lock actuator on my 2019 Nissan Rogue has failed for the second time. This is a repeat failure of the same component, which was previously replaced approximately four years ago. The lock intermittently fails to lock or unlock using the key fob, interior door switch, and manual controls. This defect presents a significant safety concern. When the actuator fails: •The door may remain unlocked while driving •The door may fail to unlock, trapping occupants inside the vehicle •Occupants may be unable to exit the vehicle in an emergency •There is a risk that the door could open unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion Because this is a passenger door, it directly affects occupant safety, particularly for children, elderly passengers, or anyone who may need to exit the vehicle quickly. Failure Details •Vehicle: 2019 Nissan Rogue •Mileage at current failure: approximately 74,000 miles •Door affected: Left rear passenger door •Failure mode: Lock actuator intermittently fails to lock/unlock •Methods affected: Key fob, interior lock button, and manual door lock •Prior repair: Door lock actuator replaced once before; same issue has reoccurred This indicates a pattern of premature failure rather than normal wear and tear. Frequency and Pattern: This appears to be a known and widespread issue affecting Nissan Rogue vehicles across multiple model years. There are numerous consumer complaints describing identical failures of door lock actuators on Nissan Rogue vehicles. A class action lawsuit (Khalifa v. Nissan North America, Inc.) was filed alleging a latent defect in Nissan door lock actuators across multiple Nissan models, including the Rogue. Although the lawsuit was administratively stayed pending arbitration, the underlying safety defect remains unresolved for vehicle owners. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate the repeated failure of door lock actuators in Nissan Rogue
