Consumer Description

The automatic transmission on my 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe has failed prematurely at approximately 88,000 miles. The dealership confirmed internal transmission damage, specifically that Solenoid #3 in the valve body is sticking and not engaging, which requires a complete transmission replacement. Their written inspection states: “Possible internal damage in transmission. Solenoid 3 in valve body is not engaging.” The component is available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: This malfunction created several dangerous situations. The vehicle hesitated, struggled to shift into gear, and at times moved forward while in reverse. These symptoms could cause loss of control, delayed acceleration when entering traffic, or unexpected movement putting myself and others at risk. Diagnosis Confirmation: Yes. The problem has been fully inspected, reproduced, and confirmed by an authorized Chevrolet dealership service center. They provided a written estimate of $8,669.59 for a complete transmission replacement. Inspection by Others: The transmission has been inspected by the dealership where the vehicle was purchased. No independent mechanic, police, or insurance representative has inspected it yet, but the dealership’s findings are available. Warning Lamps or Symptoms: Prior to the failure, I experienced hesitation, difficulty engaging gears, harsh shifting, and the vehicle lunging forward while in reverse. Shortly after these symptoms appeared, both the check engine light and tire pressure light came on. Additional Context: GM has released multiple Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs), including 19-NA-153 and 21-NA-199, addressing known issues with their 8-speed transmissions such as harsh shifting, slipping, and valve body/solenoid problems. This suggests a broader pattern of defects. GM and the dealership offered only 10% goodwill assistance, leaving almost the entire repair cost to the consumer, despite this being an internal mechanical defect with normal personal use.
