NHTSA Complaint #11689084 — 2013 FORD F-150

The contact owns a 2013 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving 65 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted to first gear, causing the wheels to lock up and the vehicle to fishtail into three lanes of traffic. The contact shifted the transmission to neutral (N) and coasted the vehicle off the highway. The contact then shifted the transmission into drive(D) and was able to correct the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who performed the recall repair under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V075000 (Power Train); however, the failure recurred while driving at 40 MPH, almost causing a crash. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer and was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was 146,807.
