The contact stated that while reversing at 5 MPH, the rear parking brake independently engaged. No warning lights illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that while driving at 20 MPH, the vehicle had jerked with a sudden acceleration before the rear brakes had independently locked. Injuries were sustained. The contact sought medical attention for injuries sustained to his back, neck, and spine. The front passenger sought medical attention for whiplash and head injuries. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure occurred on several occasions. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 28,989.
