NHTSA Complaint #11678713 — 2019 FORD ESCAPE

The contact’s daughter owns a 2019 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an Auto Parts Store, where it was diagnosed with ignition coil failure. The vehicle was then taken to the residence, where a family friend replaced the ignition coils; however, the check engine warning light was illuminated, and the message "Engine Fault - Coolant" was displayed while driving the following day. The vehicle was steered to the side of the road and was turned off. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed with coolant intrusion into the engine, and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 95,800.
