Consumer Description

While driving on [XXX] in Selden, NY on [XXX] @ the speed of approximately 45-50 mph my 2013 Honda Accord Sport (sedan) abruptly, unexpectedly and violently lurched to the left on it's own while I was holding the wheel with my fingers. Thank God I was already in the left lane because my vehicle went off the left shoulder and began to go onto the grass in the median but I was able to recover before completely going of the road. Had I been in the right lane I would have ran into a vehicle in the left lane because traffic was heavy at the time. Up until this point, my car drove straight and true without the need for alignment, air pressure adjustments, brakes or balancing. I know this because I have a little over 95,000 miles on the car and I keep my Honda pristine. However, to rule out the obvious possibilities I had an alignment done and all 4 tires checked for balancing and tire pressure issues. My brakes are in excellent condition and the vehicle did not make any unexpected sounds either before or after the incident and no dash board lights came on before or after the incident. I went to my mechanic and he researched the problem and I was told that the EPS was malfunctioning so he reset the computer and the problem seemed to be rectified. Unfortunately, the problem occurred again, on [XXX] except this time the car lurched to the right with the same intensity. I went back to my mechanic on Friday, June 6, 2025 and after diagnosis I was told that the same problem is occurring with the EPS but this time it cannot be fixed and the cost of repair is approximately $3200.00. I did some research on line and found a ton of information on complaints about faulty EPS systems in multiple year Honda's and an investigation that is ongoing involving the NHTSB about this defect. I went to Baron Honda, in Patchogue, NY and one of their service managers, Steve, says he hasn't heard anything about any of this. I call [XXX].
