The contact owns a 2019 Ford EcoSport. The contact stated that while driving through a snowstorm on the highway at 35 MPH, there was an abnormal popping sound coming from the engine, and the vehicle experienced a loss of automotive power and decelerated to 20 MPH. The check engine and engine temperature warning lights were illuminated. The contact pulled off on the next exit and parked the vehicle at a nearby gas station. The vehicle was then towed to a local dealer where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the thermostat was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V905000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING) as a possible cause of the failure. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure.
