The contact owns a 2021 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V651000 (Structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the door failed to close securely. The contact stated that while driving approximately 25 - 30 MPH, the front driver’s side door opened unexpectedly. The contact immediately grabbed the door and continued holding the door closed while driving. After arriving to the destination, the contact slammed the door several times before the door closed. There were no warning lights. The contact stated that the failure had occurred around the same time of the year. The dealer was contacted and confirmed that parts were on backorder and was unsure when the vehicle would be repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 46,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
