NHTSA Complaint #11631416 — 2021 GMC SIERRA 1500

The contact owns a 2021 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH, the message that the tailgate was opened was displayed, and the contact became aware that the tailgate had opened. The contact pulled over to the right side of the road to close the tailgate. The vehicle was not taken to an independent mechanic or dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and opened a case and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 41,000.
