The contact owns a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated after placing the vehicle in park with the ignition running, the contact then shifted to drive however, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The shifter system failure message was displayed. The contact stated that the vehicle was inspected, and the contact was informed that the drive belt was loose. The drive belt was tightened. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the shifter cable bushing had disconnected and the bushing missing. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and confirmed that the VIN was not under recall. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 169,359.
