Consumer Description
Under normal driving conditions, I have experienced extended brake pedal travel while braking, accompanied by the activation of the ABS, brake, and traction control warning lights. This issue has recurred multiple times over the past year while driving at speeds up to 65 mph, typically lasting for several days until the warning lights reset and hydraulic/regenerative braking is restored. The failure of the hydraulic braking system poses a significant threat not only to my safety but also to the safety of everyone on the road. Without reliable brakes, the ability to stop effectively is compromised, increasing the risk of accidents and endangering both myself and others nearby. Most recently, this problem persisted for over two weeks. The vehicle was inspected at a Ford dealership, which determined that the ABS module had failed and required replacement. The vehicle is available for further inspection upon request. This failure of the ABS module could be linked to the same issue previously recalled in the gas model of the Ford Fusion (Ford Motor Company Recall No. 19S54), where the DOT3 brake fluid causes a normally closed valve to remain stuck open in the brake system’s hydraulic control unit (HCU). Alarmingly, the Ford Fusion hybrid model was excluded from this recall, despite exhibiting the same dangerous braking issues. In November 2018, the NHTSA recommended a safety recall for this concern due to its serious nature. Ford’s "Customer Satisfaction Program 21N11" acknowledges the gravity of the situation but excludes hybrid models, placing the financial burden of essential repairs on owners. I urge the NHTSA to take immediate action to address this safety issue for all affected vehicles, including the Ford Fusion hybrid, and implement a recall to ensure the safety of drivers and passengers.
