NHTSA Complaint #11588687 — 2014 BMW 328D

The contact owns a 2014 BMW 328D. The contact stated that while driving approximately 70–75 MPH, the vehicle shuddered and then lost motive power. An unknown message was displayed. The contact pulled over to the shoulder, and the vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the high-pressure fuel pump needed to be replaced due to metal shavings in the fuel injectors. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V586000 (Fuel System, Diesel); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 108,859.
