NHTSA Complaint #11588426 — 2018 HONDA CR-V

The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact was able to pull to the side of the road. The contact was able to restart the vehicle and continue driving. The contact stated that the failure recurred on two other occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the turbocharger was damaged due to a bolt intrusion. The dealer later informed the contact that while test-driving the vehicle, the failure recurred, and the vehicle made an abnormal sound. The dealer determined that the turbo shaft was fractured. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist because the dealer report indicated that the engine oil was dirty, and the contact did not have all the oil change receipts available. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to Honda Engine Oil Dilution Drivability Concerns Warranty Extension. The failure mileage was unknown.
