Consumer Description

My battery warning lamp came on, and when i was safely able to pull over and pop the hood, the alternator was smoldering and smoking, and continued to do so for almost an hour after the battery was disconnected. I stood by with a fire extinguisher for fear of it catching fire. It looks as though this issue has been on a recall for the 2012 models, but not for the 2011. What changed in 2012 to eliminate this from happening?
