NHTSA Complaint #11580753 — 2019 JAGUAR I-PACE

I turned my vehicle on and it showed a Gearbox Fault Detected message. I was able to put the car in reverse and accelerate to 2 MPH while reversing. The car began to slow down even with my foot on the accelerator as if there was no power. I was fully reversed out of my parking spot and went to put the car in drive as I was in the middle of the very busy parking lot with cars waiting on either side to continue driving. The car would then turn on the parking break as I pressed the accelerator, no matter which gear I was in. I was stranded at an angle, causing traffic to be delayed with cars backed up all the way to both entrances of the parking lot and vehicles in the street at a complete stop to enter with a 40MPH speed limit. I had to get my vehicle towed to Jaguar Dealer Service and after diagnostic the harness for the Parking Pawl has failed and needs to be replaced. If I had been reversing out of my home into the street, or really anywhere else than the parking lot I was in, I would have caused an accident. We’re lucky an accident wasn’t caused from people being stopped in the street.
