NHTSA Complaint #11578986 — 2022 GMC SIERRA 1500

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated that while driving and transporting a trailer at an undisclosed speed, the tailgate was independently activated. The contact was alerted by a nearby driver that the tailgate was open. The contact stated that due to the failure, the tailgate was damaged. In addition, the contact stated that the failure had occurred previously several times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. However, the contact was advised to report the failure to NHTSA. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 12,000.
