NHTSA Complaint #11547399 — 2017 FORD FUSION

The contact's daughter owned a 2017 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that the vehicle was hesitating while depressing the accelerator pedal. The check engine warning light was illuminated. An independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and discovered that the rear main seal was defective. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the rear main seal was replaced; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was discovered that coolant from the head gasket had leaked into the engine cylinder, resulting in engine failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was filed. The vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 53,000.
