NHTSA Complaint #11520081 — 2014 JEEP CHEROKEE

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while at a stop light, the electronic parking brake erroneously activated. The contact was able to deactivate the parking brake and continued to operate the vehicle. Later while driving approximately 5 MPH, the electronic parking brake activated causing the vehicle to abruptly stop. The contact was unable the deactivate the electronic parking brake rendering the vehicle undrivable. The vehicle was towed to the local mechanic who diagnosed that the electronic parking brake module was faulty, due to water damage caused by rainwater leaking into the vehicle. The module was replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 88,000.
