NHTSA Complaint #11513991 — 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle started shuddering. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure persisted upon restarting the vehicle. The oil pressure warning light was illuminated. The contact checked the oil level and noticed that there was no oil in the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the pistons were locked and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that they could not assist because the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was 104,000.
