NHTSA Complaint #11497493 — 2021 FORD MUSTANG MACH E

The contact owns a 2021 Ford Mustang Mach-E. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V711000 (Visibility) and 22V412000 (Electrical System) however, the parts to do the recall repairs were unavailable. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, he received a warning from the manufacturer app of a high voltage spike and that the vehicle would shut down. The contact exited the highway and pulled into a parking lot where the vehicle shut down. The contact could not restart the vehicle. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to a dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The mechanic was able to restart the vehicle. The mechanic was unable to duplicate the failure. The contact drove the vehicle to his residence; however, the high voltage spike failure recurred. The contact had the vehicle towed back to the same dealer. The contact was informed that there was damage to the battery metal shielding on the passenger’s side, toward the center of the vehicle. The dealer stated that there were two holes and determined the damage was due to the vehicle striking an object. The dealer stated that since the damage was caused by the vehicle operator, the NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V412000 (Electrical System) could not be performed. The failure mileage was approximately 7,000. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue.
