NHTSA Complaint #11424414 — 2019 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER VELAR

The contact leased a 2019 LAND ROVER Range Rover Velar. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked with the parking brake activated, the vehicle rolled backward without warning. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer and informed the mechanic of the failure. The mechanic inspected the vehicle and the contact was able to show him video footage of the failure. The vehicle was kept in the possession of the dealer for 10 days and the gear shifter was replaced. Soon after the repair, the contact stated that while his pregnant wife had placed the vehicle into park, the vehicle begun to roll backward without warning while she was exiting the driver’s side door. His wife immediately slammed her foot on the brake to stop the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle back to the dealer for a second time where they inspected the black box and found no fault with the vehicle. The case manager had spoken with the manufacturer who recommended changing all four tires. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The vehicle was not diagnosed and remained in the possession of the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 23,000.
