Consumer Description

DURING EXTREMELY COLD WEATHER (NEAR OR BELOW 0 DEGREES F), ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILURE HAS OCCURRED UPON VEHICLE STARTUP. ONCE THE VEHICLE IS THOROUGHLY WARMED UP DURING THESE CONDITIONS POWER ASSIST RETURNS. I WAS ADVISED TWO WINTERS AGO BY A GM SERVICE MANAGER TO 'LET IT WARM UP FOR A FEW MINUTES' BEFORE DRIVING OFF. FIFTEEN MINUTES DIDN'T DO IT TWO DAYS AGO WHEN I LEFT WORK, AND ENDED UP MUSCLING IT HOME - TURNS FROM A STOP WERE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT. TODAY I HAD ERRANDS TO RUN AFTER WORK AND THE SYSTEM DID NOT RETURN TO 'LIFE' UNTIL AFTER MY THIRD STOP -- ABOUT 38 MINUTES OF COMBINED CITY & HIGHWAY DRIVING, LEAVING IT RUNNING DURING MY STOPS. DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER (DIC) INDICATED THE FAILURE AT VEHICLE START. MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO SHUTDOWN AND RESTART HAD NO EFFECT.
