Consumer Description
THE ENGINE STOPS WHILE DRIVING. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN REPORTED TO BMW DEALERS 5 TIMES IN THE PAST 5 YEARS. I BARELY DROVE THE BIKE IN 2014. 1/23/2010 6.510 KM REPORTED TO BMW OF OKLAHOMA WORK DONE PROGRAMMING CONTROL UNIT OF ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM. REPAIR DONE UNDER WARRANTY. 7/29/2011 33.234 KM REPORTED TO BMW ASHEVILLE SAME REPAIR AS FIRST TIME. 6/22/2013 65.734 KM REPORTED TO BMW ASHEVILLE SAME REPAIR AGAIN 7/8/2015 38493 MILES REPORTED TO BMW MONTREAL. RECOMMENDED REPLACE BOTH STEPPER (IDLE) MOTOR AND AIRBOX AT A COST OF OVER $1,000 7/9/2015 39000 MILES REPORTED TO BMW MECHANICSBURG, PA. SAME RECOMMENDATION AS BMW OF MONTREAL. I WAS TOLD THAT THE DEALER HAS SEEN THIS PROBLEM ON SIMILAR BIKES AND THAT THEIR RECOMMENDATION WAS THE SOLUTION. IN ADDITION, THEY STATED THAT THE PRIOR MODEL TO MINE THE K1200 HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THAT BMW HAD ISSUED A MECHANICAL ALERT AT THE TIME BUT NO ALERT HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR MY BIKE. I CALLED BMW USA TO COMPLAIN. I WAS DISMISSED WITH A RESPONSE THAT THE BIKE HAD PASSED THE WARRANTY PERIOD - NOT ACCEPTABLE. THE BIKE HAS HAD THE SAME PROBLEM FROM DAY ONE. BMW IS IGNORING THE PROBLEM WITH A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN. THE BIKE HAS A SERIOUS PROBLEM: A MOTORCYCLE ENGINE SHOULD NOT STOP WHILE IT IS BEING DRIVEN. WHEN DRIVING UNDER 15 MPH IN CITY TRAFFIC, THE ENGINE HAD A TENDENCY TO STOP. THE ENGINE STALLING HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY AND THE ENGINE WOULD START RIGHT UP AFTERWARDS. UPDATED 08/10/16.*JB *JS *TR
