Consumer Description

IN STARTING THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS A LOUD BANG, AND THEN CLATTERING. IT TURNED OUT TO BE A BLOWN SPARK PLUG. THE THREADS ON THE ENGINE HEAD AND SPARK PLUG WERE STRIPPED/SMASHED. THE COIL WAS COIL WAS ALSO DAMAGED BEYOND REPAIR. BOTH MECHANICS I SAW TO FIX THE PROBLEM WERE WELL AWARE OF PROBLEMS WITH BLOWN SPARK PLUGS IN THE F150, AND ON-LINE RESEARCH INDICATES THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH THE F150 SINCE 1997. THE SPARK PLUGS WERE FACTORY INSTALLED, AND I WAS SILL UNDER THE MILEAGE RECOMMENDATION FOR NEW PLUGS. VERY DISAPPOINTING THAT FORD WOULD NOT STEP-UP TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS THEIR PROBLEM AND PAY FOR THE FIX. THE FORD CORPORATE HEADQUARTERS REP I SPOKE WITH CLAIMED TO HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE. *TR
