Consumer Description
THIS IS A FOLLOW UP COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. TO REITERATE THAT COMPLAINT SEE COMPLAINT ID: 10396064 SINCE FILING THAT COMPLAINT I HAVE HAD THE BIKE BACK TO THE DEALER FOR MORE ADJUSTMENTS AND CHECKING WHICH AT FIRST SEEM TO WORK BUT WITHIN A FEW DAYS THE PROBLEM RETURNS. I JUST RETURNED FROM A 6700 MILE TRIP ACROSS THE COUNTRY AND MY BIKE HAD BEEN RUNNING WELL WITH NO STALLING SINCE THE LAST ADJUSTMENT A COUPLE WEEKS EARLIER. FOUR DAYS INTO THE TRIP I WAS DOWN IN LOUISIANA WHEN IT DIED SEVERAL TIMES OVER A FEW HOURS TIME. ONE OF THE WAYS TO SEEMINGLY STOP THE BIKE FROM QUITTING LIKE IT DOES IS TO DISCONNECT THE CLUTCH LEVER SAFETY INTERLOCK SWITCH. THIS SWITCH KEEPS THE BIKE FROM BEING STARTED WHEN THE BIKE IS IN GEAR BUT WILL ALLOW IT TO START IF THE CLUTCH LEVER IS PULLED IN. WHEN THE SWITCH IS DISCONNECTED YOU MUST MAKE SURE THE BIKE IS IN NEUTRAL TO START IT BUT IT HAS KEPT THE BIKE FROM DYING WHEN COMING TO A STOP....UNTIL I WAS ON MY TRIP. AFTER DISCONNECTING THE SWITCH AS I AND OTHERS HAVE BEEN DOING FOR THE LAST COUPLE YEARS THE BIKE DIED FOR THE FIRST TIME JUST AS IF IT WAS STILL CONNECTED. WHEN YOUR SITTING AT AN INTERSECTION OR AT A FREEWAY OFF RAMP WAITING FOR A LIGHT TO CHANGE AND THE BIKE DIES LIKE IT DOES YOU MUST SHUT THE BIKE OFF COMPLETELY AND THEN TURN THE KEY BACK ON AND LET THE BIKE GO THROUGH IT'S STARTUP DIAGNOSTICS WHICH TAKE ABOUT A MINUTE OR LONGER. OTHER CARS COMING OFF FREEWAYS DON'T KNOW YOUR DEAD ON THE ROAD AND A FEW OF US HAVE COME CLOSE TO BEING RUN OVER. I'VE PERSONALLY HAD TWO CLOSE ENCOUNTERS WITH ONE SQUEALING TIRES RIGHT UP TO WITHIN 5 FEET OF ME WHEN THIS HAS HAPPENED. YAMAHA HAS DENIED THERE IS A PROBLEM EVEN AFTER NUMEROUS CALLS BY MANY FELLOW OWNERS OF THIS MODEL BIKE INCLUDING MYSELF. I'M STILL TRYING TO WORK WITH YAMAHA BUT THE NHTSA NEEDS TO APPLY SOME PRESSURE TO THEM TO DO SOME TYPE OF INVESTIGATION INTO THE CAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM AND STOP DENYING IT DOESN'T EXIST BEFORE A RIDER ENDS UP SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED. *TR
