Consumer Description

2000 CHEVY S-10 PICKUP TRUCK (APPROX 35K MILES) TAILGATE CABLES HAVE SNAPPED AT MIDPOINT, APPROXIMATELY WHERE THEY ARE FORCED TO BEND WHILE THE TAILGATE IS IN CLOSED POSITION. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO LOAD ON THE TAILGATE AT THE TIME BUT THE IN-USE FAILURE PUTS THE TAILGATE AT RISK TO FALL OFF THE TRUCK WHILE IN MOTION POTENTIALLY ENDANGERING A VEHICLE FOLLOWING ME. I SEE FROM AN EARLIER NHTSA RECALL, OTHER WEBSITE DISCUSSIONS AND BY THE SHEAR LACK OF REPLACEMENT PARTS AVAILABLE, THAT THIS COMPONENT FAILURE IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT.*AK
