Defect: ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE SIDESTAND SPRING AND/OR THE PIN USED TO ATTACH THE SPRING TO THE FRAME MAY BE DAMAGED.

Consequence: THIS COULD ALLOW UNINTENDED DEPLOYMENT OF THE SIDESTAND, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT AND REPLACE THE SIDESTAND SPRING AND FRAME RAIL BRACKET. AN INTERIM NOTICE TO OWNERS WAS MAILED ON NOVEMBER 11, 2003. THE RECALL BEGAN ON AUGUST 18, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT VICTORY AT 1-763-417-8650.

Recall 01V148000 — SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC

Defect: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORCYCLES. THREADED FASTENERS USED TO ATTACH THE BRAKE ROTORS TO THE FRONT AND REAR WHEEL ASSEMBLIES COULD FAIL DUE TO HYDROGEN EMBRITTLEMENT. THE FAILURE COULD OCCUR UNDER THE HEAD OF THE FASTENER IF A CRACK DEVELOPS, CAUSING A LOSS OF CLAMP LOAD AND POSSIBLE SEPARATION OF THE HEAD FROM THE THREADED BODY OF THE FASTENERS.

Consequence: A FASTENER FAILURE WILL REDUCE THE STRENGTH OF THE BOLT ASSEMBLY AND COULD AFFECT THE BRAKING CHARACTERISTICS OF THE VEHICLE.

Defect: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORCYCLES. THESE MOTORCYCLES MAY HAVE BEEN ASSEMBLED WITH THREADED FASTENERS FROM A DEFECTIVE MATERIAL LOT THAT MAY FAIL IN ASSEMBLY. THESE FASTENERS ARE USED TO ATTACH FOUR SUB-ASSEMBLIES ONTO THE VEHICLE.

Consequence: FASTENER FAILURE WILL REDUCE THE CLAMP LOAD STRENGTH OF THE ASSEMBLY AND POSSIBLE JOINT FAILURE.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE M10X50 SOCKET HEAD SCREWS WITH NEW PARTS.

I BOUGHT A 2000 VICTORY V92SC FROM A USED CAR DEALERSHIP IN NOV OF 2009. THE BIKE HAD 2502 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING A FALSE NEUTRAL WHEN SHIFTING INTO 3RD GEAR. THE BIKE WILL ALSO "DROP" OUT OF 3RD GEAR CAUSING LOSS OF POWER AND CREATING HAZARDOUS TRAFFIC SITUATIONS. I TOOK THE MOTORCYCLE TO A VICTORY DEALERSHIP AND WAS INFORMED THIS WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR MOTORCYCLE THAT VICTORY PRODUCED. IT WOULD SEEM IN THE BEST INTEREST OF ALL INVOLVED, FOR POLARIS INDUSTRIES TO PROVIDE A WORKING TRANSMISSION AT NO COST TO UNSUSPECTING BUYERS OF THEIR PRODUCT. I PAID $3,900 FOR THIS MOTORCYCLE WHICH IS OBVIOUSLY UNSAFE TO OPERATE ON US HIGHWAYS!!! IF POLARIS WILL NOT FIX THE FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS, THE NHTSA SHOULD DEEM THE MOTORCYCLES ILLEGAL TO OPERATE ON US HIGHWAYS DUE TO MECHANICAL MALFUNCTION AND THE SUBSEQUENT HAZARDOUS SITUATIONS CREATED BY SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. I OWN A 2000 VICTORY V92SC MOTORCYCLE. THE BIKE HAS BEGAN TO JUMP OUT OF THIRD GEAR EVERY TIME. THIS CAN CAUSE PARTS TO FAIL LOCKING UP THE TRANSMISSION RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL. VICTORY IS WELL AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT REFUSES TO MAKE THE NECESSARY REPAIRS. THE MOTORCYCLE HAS LESS THAN 7K MILES ON IT. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS MOTORCYCLE AT ONE TIME.
