#10503760 | AIR BAGS | | 200,000 miles Crash 4 Injuries 1 Death
A 2002 CHEVY SUBURBAN TRAVELING AT 35MPH COLLIDED AT 90 DEGREES WITH SIDE OF A 53' BOX TRAILER. BECAUSE OF THE HEIGHT OF THE SIDE OF THE TRAILER THE SUBURBAN'S FRONT BUMPER AND GRILL PASSED UNDERNEATH THE TRAILER, ALLOWING THE SIDE OF THE TRAILER TO CRUSH THE CAB OF THE SUBURBAN. AS A RESULT OF THIS COLLISION, THE ROOF OF THE SUBURBAN CRUSHED IN ON THE DRIVER. THE DRIVER'S HEAD WAS TWISTED SIDEWAYS AND PINNED TO HIS HEADREST CAUSING HIM DEATH BY ASPHYXIATION. THIS WAS A SURVIVABLE COLLISION SPEED AS SHOWN BY THE 35MPH NCAP TEST FOR THIS SUV. THE SUBURBAN'S SAFETY SYSTEMS (CRUMPLE ZONES, SEAT BELTS, AIRBAGS, SURVIVAL SPACE, ETC.) WERE RENDERED INEFFECTIVE BY THE LACK A GUARDRAIL OR BUMPER SIMILAR TO THAT PRESENT ON THE REAR OF TRAILERS. THE UTILITY TRAILER IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS IN SIDE TYPE COLLISIONS BECAUSE THE COLLISION FORCES ARE PLACED UPON THE WINDSCREEN AND ROOF OF THE CAR WHICH IS NOT CAPABLE OF KEEPING THE SIDE OF THE TRAILER AWAY FROM THE FACE, HEAD, AND UPPER BODY OF SMALLER CARS. *TR
