Defect: ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE FUEL CONNECTOR LINKING EACH OF THE FEED AND RETURN FUEL HOSES TO THE FUEL PUMP MOUNTING PLATE MAY FRACTURE FOLLOWING IN-SERVICE HANDLING.
Consequence: FUEL COULD ESCAPE FROM THE FRACTURED BODY OF THE CONNECTOR ONTO THE ENGINE OR SIDE OF THE BIKE. FUEL LEAKAGE, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, CAN RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE CONNECTOR. THE RECALL BEGAN ON JULY 30, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT TRIUMPH AT 1-678-854-2010.

Defect: ON CERTAIN MOTORCYCLES, THE REAR WHEEL NEEDLE ROLLER BEARING AS FITTED ONLY TO CERTAIN SINGLE SIDED SWINGING ARM MOTORCYCLES CAN DETERIORATE AND SEIZE CAUSING THE REAR WHEEL TO LOCK-UP.
Consequence: THIS CAN CAUSE A LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE MOTORCYCLE.

Defect: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: MOTORCYCLES. THE CLUTCH CONTROL CABLE CAN FRAY AND FAIL. THE BARREL AT THE END OF THE INNER CABLE SEIZES IN THE CONTROL LEVER BORE, THEREBY STRESSING THE INNER CABLE.
Consequence: THIS CAUSES THE RIDER TO BE UNABLE TO ENGAGE THE CLUTCH, INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCES AND INHIBITING DRIVING CONTROL.

PLASTIC GAS TANK HAS EXPANDED. LIKELY DUE TO ETHANOL IN FUEL CAUSING WATER ABSORPTION IN PLASTIC. TANK IS VERY DIFFICULT TO INSTALL AFTER REMOVAL. STRESS ON TANK BECAUSE OF IMPROPER FIT COULD CAUSE CRACKS AND LEAKS. *TR
FUEL TANK WAS REMOVED FROM MOTORCYCLE TO INSTALL A NEW THROTTLE CABLE. WHEN FUEL TANK WAS REINSTALLED, THE MOUNTING HOLES FOR THE FUEL TANK NO LONGER LINED UP, THE FUEL TANK DIDN'T FIT BETWEEN THE FRAME RAILS AND TO MOUNT THE FUEL TANK A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF PRESSURE NEEDED TO BE APPLIED TO FORCE THE MOUNTING HOLES TO LINE UP. THIS PUTS THE WHOLE TANK UNDER SEVERE STRESS AND COULD CAUSE LEAKS. THE NEXT TIME IT IS REMOVED, I DO NOT BELIEVE THE TANK WILL GO BACK INTO THE MOTORCYCLE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH ANY OF THE PLASTIC TANKS DUE TO ETHANOL FUEL THAT IS REQUIRED HERE IN THE US ON MANY MAKES/MODELS OF THE MOTORCYCLES.
STARTER CROSS SHAFT OUTBOARD SUPPORT BEARINGS IN TRANSMISSION AND CRANKCASE. INTAKE/EXHAUST VALVES BEYOND MINIMUM LASH, CAUSED BY FAULTY ENGINE ECU. FAULTY ECU, CAN NOT BE "READ" OR ACCESSED BY FACTORY DIAGNOSTIC TOOL , CREATING EXCESSIVE EXHAUST HEAT BURNING HOLES IN BODYWORK, POSSIBLE FIRES AND BURNING LEGS OF RIDER. DEALER WILL ONLY AGREE TO CUSTOMER PAYMENT OF COMPLETE OVERHAUL AND REPLACEMENT OF FAULTY ECU WHICH HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM SINCE NEW. ESTIMATES EXCEED VEHICLE VALUE.
