TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA ECHO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START, EVEN AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS. A MECHANIC INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND CONCLUDED THAT THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR WAS THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE COMPONENT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V266000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING); THEREFORE, THEY WOULD NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 109,000.
THE CONSUMER (WHICH IS THE MOTHER OF THE PERSON WHO SENT THIS CORRESPONDENCE)-HAD COME TO A CURVE WHERE SHE MISJUDGED THE TURN, AND CAUSED HER TO SLIDE OFF OF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD AND HIT A PINE TREE. THE IMPACT IGNITED A FIRE UNDER THE HOOD. THE DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. *MR *SCC *NLM
