THE HYDRAULIC STRUTS USED TO TO HOLD THE HOOD OPEN FAILED AGAIN. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IN 5 YEARS THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED. WITHOUT WARNING OR ANY INDICATION, THE HOOD CAME DOWN WHILE I WAS CHECKING THE OIL LEVEL. IT ALMOST CRUSHED MY HANDS. I HAD THE STRUTS REPLACED 5 YEARS AGO WHEN THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I CONTACTED TOYOTA ON 7/23/01 AND ASKED IF THEY OR THEIR DEALERS HAD RECEIVED SIMILAR COMPLAINTS. THEIR RESPONSE, ON THE SAME DAY WAS, "NO" (FYI THE TOYOTA INCIDENT # IS 010723-000028). THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND CAN SEVERELY INJURE PEOPLE WORKING UNDER THE HOOD - WHICH IS RATHER HEAVY AND COMES DOWN WITH MUCH FORCE. THERE IS NO SAFETY ROD OR WARNING DEVICE TO LET ONE KNOW WHEN THESE STRUTS ARE READY TO LET GO. I SENT TOYOTA AN E-MAIL PERTAINING TO THIS MATTER. I WILL...
