7 complaints have been filed with NHTSA for the 2015 THOR MOTOR COACH HURRICANE. Below is a breakdown by vehicle component.

Most Recent Complaints

#11160521 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | | 20,000 miles
THE ENTRANCE LOCK FALLED LEAVING OCCUPANT LOCKED OUT OF MOTORHOME. HAD TO PRY LOCK FROM DOOR. PERSONS COULD HAVE BEEN LOCKED INSIDE...VEHICLE WAS PARKED. IF VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT THEN THE OCCUPANTS WOULD HAVE BEEN LOCKED INSIDE WITHOUT AN ESCAPE ROUTE...
#11113134 | VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER | | 13,000 miles
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 THOR HURRICANE. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH IN THE RAIN WITH THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS ACTIVATED, THE PASSENGER SIDE WIPER BECAME DETACHED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO AN UNKNOWN MANUFACTURER SAFETY RECALL. THE DEALER (THOR MOTOR COACH, 2700 S NAPPANEE ST, ELKHART, IN 46517, (800) 860-5658) WAS CONTACTED, BUT WAS UNABLE TO ASSIST. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,000.
#10861035 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | | 2,000 miles
ONAN GENERATOR STOP AFTER OPERATING FOR 1 OR 2 HOURS WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. GENERATOR REPORTS ERROR CODE 36, APPARENTLY OVERHEATING IS THE REASON. THOR AND ONAN ARE POINTING AT EACH OTHER AS TO WHO IS RESPONSIBLE. ONAN GENERATOR IS RATED TO OPERATE UP TO 120F, BUT FAILS WHEN TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE IS BELOW 100 AND THE VEHICLE IS MOVING, WHICH SHOULD RESULT IN SOME COOLING EFFECT TO COUNTER THE EFFECT OF THE HOT ROAD SURFACE AND RV ENGINE HEAT. INTERIOR OF RV, SPECIALLY IN LONGER UNITS CAN NOT MAINTAIN A SAFE TEMPERATURE FOR PASSENGERS WITH ONLY THE ENGINE A/C UNIT. GENERATOR RUNS FINE FOR 24 HOURS IN 100+ DEGREE WEATHER WHEN THE RV IS STATIONARY AND THE GENERATOR IS RUNNING ON FULL LOAD (2 ROOF MOUNTED A/C UNITS). AFTER A 1 HOUR STOP AT A REST AREA WITH RV ENGINE RUNNING STILL TO KEEP RV A/C ON, THE GENERATOR WILL START UP AGAIN AND WILL WORK FINE UNTIL YOU START DRIVING AGAIN, WITH-IN 30 MINUTES IT WILL SHUT DOWN AGAIN. MANY PEOPLE ARE COMPLAINING OF SIMILAR EXPERIENCE WITH ONAN SUGGESTING YOU REMOVE THE DOOR OF THE GENERATOR COMPARTMENT, WHICH ITSELF MAY BE A SAFETY HAZARD. RV MANUFACTURERS CLAIM THEY ARE INSTALLING THE UNIT ACCORDING TO ONAN'S SPECS. SOME RV OWNERS SUGGEST ONAN IS AVOIDING A RECALL BY PROPOSING SOLUTIONS LIKE NO COMPARTMENT DOOR TO RV OWNERS.
#10767333 | ELECTRICAL SYSTEM | | 6,100 miles
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 THOR HURRICANE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE PROGRESSING FAILURES WITH AN ELECTRICAL CURRENT FLOWING THROUGH THE MOTOR HOME. THE CURRENT IMPACTED THE METAL COMPONENTS IN THE VEHICLE AND CAUSED A SHOCK. THE CONTACT EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE WHILE AT A CAMPGROUND ELECTRICAL STATION AND WITH THE HOME ELECTRICAL PORT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE AWNING DID NOT RETRACT PROPERLY, CAUSING THE CONTACT TO MAKE A MANUAL ADJUSTMENT DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,100.
#10730324 | UNKNOWN OR OTHER | | 7,300 miles Fire
UPON DRIVING NOTICED A BURNING SMELL FORM UNDERNEATH MOTORHOME. OPENED SIDE COMPARTMENT TO FIND MELTING, BURNING PLASTIC INSIDE DRIPPING ONTO UNPROTECTED UN SHIELDED EXHAUST SYSTEM. IF ANYTHING WAS STORED INSIDE THIS COMPARTMENT IT WOULD OF FUELED A MUCH LARGER MORE DANGEROUS FIRE.
