Defect: SUNNYBROOK IS RECALLING CERTAIN RECREATIONAL VEHICLES, MANUFACTURED FROM OCTOBER 2002 THROUGH MAY 2008, EQUIPPED WITH DIMPLEX ELECTRAFLAME, SYMPHONY, OR OPTIFLAME BRANDED ELECTRIC FIREPLACES, STOVES, AND FIREPLACE INSERTS. THE PLUG IN REMOTE CONTROL RECEIVER FOR THE FIREPLACE CAN OVERHEAT.

Consequence: AN OVERHEATED RECEIVER COULD CAUSE A FIRE.

Remedy: SUNNYBROOK IS WORKING WITH DIMPLEX AND DIMPLEX WILL PROVIDE OWNERS A FREE REPLACEMENT PLUG-IN REMOTE CONTROL KIT. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING DECEMBER 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DIMPLEX NORTH AMERICA CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-888-346-7539.

Recall 06V482000 — FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP

Defect: ON CERTAIN FIFTH WHEEL TRAVEL TRAILERS EQUIPPED WITH GREAT PLAINS (GPI) FUEL PUMPS, DUE TO INSUFFICIENT EPOXY ADHESIVE APPLIED AT THE TIME OF INSTALLATION AT THE FACTORY, A FUEL LEAK CAN OCCUR AT THE PUMP'S INLET VALVE.

Consequence: IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, A FIRE CAN OCCUR.

Remedy: SUNNYBROOK RV IS WORKING WITH GPI TO HAVE THE FUEL PUMPS REPLACED (PLEASE SEE 06E-016). OWNERS MAY CONTACT GPI AT 1-316-686-7361 OR SUNNYBROOK RV AT 1-574-825-5250.

WE PURCHASED THE 2006 SUNNYBROOK TITAN FROM BUDDY GREGG BACK ON JULY 7, 2017. THE SECOND WEEKEND OF USING THE UNIT STARTED WITH THE FAILURE OF THE IOTA ITS-50R TRANSFER SWITCH. WIRE AND INSULATION BURNED, THE TERMINAL LUGS MELTED/FUSED, AND THE PLASTIC COVER STARTED TO MELT. THE RV WAS STATIONARY. WE WERE ABLE TO GET A TECHNICIAN TO RESPOND SATURDAY AFTERNOON AFTER SALESMAN TOLD ME THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT BUDDY GREGG WAS NOT OPEN ON SATURDAY. AFTER REPLACING THE ATS, THE TECH FOUND THE HEATING ELEMENT OF THE REFRIGERATOR WAS FRIED AS WELL AS THE CONVECTION MICROWAVE. THE TECH WAS ABLE TO REPLACE THE HEATING ELEMENT AND REPAIR THE REFRIGERATOR. A FEW HOURS AFTER THE TECH LEFT, THE REFRIGERATOR BOARD APPEARED TO FAIL, THE 12V LIGHTS DIMMED, AND THE PROPANE ALARM WAS TRIPPED. THE LIGHT PATTERN ON THE ALARM INDICATED A POWER FAILURE. WE CONTACTED THE TECH AND DETERMINED THE CONVERTER/INVERTER WAS EVIDENTLY IRREPARABLY DAMAGED BY THE FAILURE IOTA TRANSFER SWITCH. WE NOW HAVE TO HAVE THIS REPLACED. RESEARCH REVEALS THE IOTA ITS-50R TRANSFER SWITCH HAD SEVERAL RECALLS ISSUED FOR IT SEVERAL YEARS AGO. ONE INCLUDED THE TIGHTENING OF TERMINAL LUGS TO 45 POUNDS AND ONE ISSUED LATER FOR TOTAL REPLACEMENT OF THE UNIT. OBVIOUSLY THE PREVIOUS OWNERS OF THIS RV EITHER DID NOT EVER GET A RECALL NOTICE, OR JUST OPTED NOT TO HAVE THE UNIT REPLACED. ALTHOUGH WE UNDERSTAND THIS RV WAS USED WHEN WE PURCHASED IT AND WAS ASSURED IT HAD PASSED THROUGH SOME TYPE OF INSPECTION BY THE DEALERSHIP. AT MINIMUM, AS NEW RV OWNERS WE EXPECTED AND RELIED ON THE DEALERSHIP/SERVICE EXPERTISE TO ENSURE THE UNIT WAS SAFE. NEVER IN OUR WILDEST NIGHTMARES WOULD WE HAVE EXPECTED POTENTIALLY CATASTROPHIC EVENT OF THIS NATURE THE SECOND TIME USING IT. THAT SAID, WE ARE ALSO VERY GRATEFUL IT OCCURRED WHILE WE WERE AWAKE AT THE TIME AND IT DIDN'T DEVELOP INTO A FIRE.

BY READING RV.NET I LEARNED OF A RECALL ON DOMETIC REFRIGS, INSTALLED IN RVS. I CALLED OUR DEALER WHO DIDN'T THINK OUR REFRIG WAS PART OF THE RECALL. I CALLED DOMETIC AND THEY SAID IT WAS BUT IT IS UP TO OUR DEALER TO NOTIFY US. THE DEALER SAID HE HAS HAD NO INFO ON THIS. MY COMPLAINT IS "WHY AREN'T WE NOTIFIED BY DOMETIC OF THE RECALL? IF I HADN'T READ OF THIS ON RV.NET I WOULD HAVE NEVER FOUND OUT AND SOMETHING IS WRONG WITH THIS PRACTICE. OUR REFRIG DIDN'T CATCH ON FIRE BUT THE POTENTIAL IS THERE. ON 3 MAR 08 7:50 AM CALIF. HI 95 MILE MARKE56 I HEARD A LOUD NOISE CHECKED THE RIGHT MIRROR FIRST THEN THE LEFT WHEN I SAW THE LEFT FRONT TIRE COMING APART. THE DAMAGE TO THE R.V. IS VERY EXTENSIVE, SOME WHERE BETWEEN 3,000.00 AND 6,000.00 DOLLARS. THE DEALER IS STILL ASSESSING THE DAMAGE. I TOOK THE R.V. ,WITCH IS A 32 FOOT 5TH WHEEL TO MY TIRE DEALER AND THEY FOUND THE OTHER TIRE ON THE SAME SIDE READY TO BLOW ALSO. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 58 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THE TREAD SEPARATING FROM THE TIRE. SHE NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY SENT HER FIVE NEW TIRES. SHORTLY AFTERWARDS, WHILE DRIVING 61 MPH, THE DRIVER SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT. THE TIRE PRESSURE OF ALL THE TIRES WAS 90 PSI. SHE NOTIFIED THE DEALER AGAIN AND THEY STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE DEFECTIVE. THE TIRE WAS REPLACED AND THE DEALER DID NOT INSPECT THE TIRE. APPROXIMATELY TWO DAYS LATER WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH HE EXPERIENCED A BLOWOUT ON THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WERE STRESS CRACKS IN THE TIRE AND THAT THE TIRES WERE DEFECTIVE. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE DOT NUMBER AND VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000. THE VEHICLE WAS A TRAILER; THEREFORE, THERE WAS NO ENGINE SIZE, NUMBER OF CYLINDER OR CURRENT MILEAGE INFORMATION.
