NOW I AM CAR LESS AND IN DANGER OF LOSING EMPLOYMENT. I HAVE RECENTLY DISCOVERED THAT THERE HAD BEEN A PREVIOUS RECALL ON THIS SPECIFIC VEHICLE AND PART. HOWEVER THERE'S NOTHING I CAN DO. HAD I KNOWN THIS I WOULD HAVE NEVER PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING HOME MY CAR JUST STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. I HAD NO IDEA WHAT HAPPENED OR WHAT WAS WRONG, IT JUST STOPPED WITH NO WARNING, RIGHT BEFORE IT STOPPED IT MADE A NOISE UNFAMILIAR TO ME BUT IT SOUNDED AS IF THE BRAKES HAD FALLEN OFF OR SOMETHING. APPARENTLY MY TIMING CHAIN WAS TO LOOSE AND KEPT HITTING SOMETHING ELSE AND OVER TIME THE CHAIN BROKE AND WHAT IT WAS HITTING WAS DAMAGED SO I HAD TO REPLACE BOTH AND BECAUSE THE ENGINE HAD TO BE DROPPED TO GET TO REPLACE, IT COST ME $1800.00 OUT MY POCKET ALSO THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE RACK AND PINION WILL HAVE TO BE DONE ALSO....
I HAVE HAD MULTIPLE PROBLEMS WITH THIS CAR, I HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, A FIRE IN THE RESONATOR AND 4 OR 5 TIMES WHERE THE CAR JUST STOPS RUNNING AND I'M NOT ABLE TO GET IT TO START AGAIN FOR A WHILE. THE CAR HAS ACCELERATED WHEN MY FOOT WAS NOT EVEN ON THE PEDDLE MAKING ME GO 65 IN 30 WITH NO CONTROL OVER THE VEHICLE. I HAVE ALSO HAD TIMES WHERE THE GAS PEDDLE WAS STUCK AND I WAS UNABLE TO SLOW DOWN EVEN WHEN SLAMMING ON THE BRAKES. AT STOP LIGHTS THE WHEELS KEEP SPINNING WHEN MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE AND THE CAR MOVES INTO THE INTERSECTION. *TR
VEHICLE WAS COVERED BY SATURN RECALL 07V519000, ENTIRE VALVE ASSEMBLY AND TIMING CHAIN REPLACED BY GM SHOP AT APPROXIMATELY 45,000 MILES AFTER TIMING CHAIN FAILURE WITH BENT VALVES, FAILURE ALSO WAS AT EXPRESSWAY SPEED OF 55 MPH. SAME TYPE OF FAILURE AGAIN OCCURRED ON HIGHWAY AT SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO STATED PROBLEM WAS VALVE FAILURE. TOTAL VEHICLE MILEAGE IS APPROXIMATELY 95,000 MILES. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 SATURN LS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE DRIVER HEARD A POP AND THE VEHICLE POWERED OFF WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE CONTACT MERGED TO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND IT FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN RECALL NUMBER: 07V519000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,116 UPDATED 04/30/13*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TWICE. THE TIMING CHAIN AND TENSIONER BROKE. ALSO, FOUR INTAKE VALVES WERE BENT, AND TWO EXHAUST VALVES WERE BENT.

DID SOME RESEARCH ONLINE AND DECIDED TO REPORT THIS. WE PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW IN 2001. HAD IT SERVICED EVERY 3,000 MILES AT THE DEALER TILL WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED. I WAS DRIVING DOWN A LOCAL STREET IN MY HOMETOWN. I WAS DOING THE SPEED LIMIT AND JUST CRUISING WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I LOST ALL POWER IN MY CAR. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHERE THEY PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH CONCLUDED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE VEHICLE WAS AWAITING REPAIRS. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT HER VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INCLUDED IN THE PREVIOUS RECALL. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 103,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TIMING CHAIN HAD FRACTURED WITHIN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. HEADING I-64 WESTBOUND IN KY WHEN THERE WAS A VERY LOUD POP/BACKFIRE TYPE NOISE HEARD FROM ENGINE COMPARTMENT. IMMEDIATELY LOST ALL POWER AND WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET OUT OF TRAFFIC. CAR MADE HUMMING NOISE WHEN I TURNED THE KEY, THAT WAS IT. IMMEDIATELY CALLED TOW SERVICE. CAR WAS CHECKED OUT AND I WAS TOLD I WAS BASICALLY LOOKING AT A MOTOR. I WAS TOLD THE TIMING CHAIN HAD BROKE AND THAT BECAUSE IT WAS AN INTERFERENCE ENGINE THE RODS/PISTONS ETC. BECOME DAMAGED BECAUSE MOTOR FINISHES ITS REVOLUTION. CALLED LOCAL GM DEALER NEXT AND WAS TOLD THAT SOMETIMES THE BLOCK CRACKS WITH THESE ALSO WHEN THIS HAPPENS. NOW A NICE CAR WITH NO MOTOR. ESTIMATES ARE THROUGH THE ROOF. MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING OUR 2001 SATURN L200 TO WORK. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE THE CAR JUST SHUT COMPLETELY OFF SO HE HAD TO COST OVER FOUR LANES TO GET OFF OF THE EXIT RAMP. IN 9/2007 I WAS DRIVING MY 2001 SATURN L200 ON A CITY STREET, PULLING OUT ONTO A BUSY STREET NEAR A SCHOOL. THE CAR LOST POWER AND DIED. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. MY 2001 L200 SATURN HAD A PROBLEM WITH DASH LIGHTS/AND GAUGES DIMMING AND AT TIMES I HAD NO INTERIOR DASH LIGHTS....IT ENDED UP BEING A MAIN MODULE WHICH COST ME $595. SEEMS LIKE READING ALL THE OTHER COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO MINE THEY HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS PROBLEMS. I THINK THIS IS A SATURN PROBLEM AND THEY SHOULD HAVE TAKEN CARE OF THIS FOR FREE.
