Defect: Riverside RV (Riverside) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Whitewater and Mt. McKinley travel trailers. These trailers were manufactured without rear-facing reflectors and have non-reflective tail lights. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Consequence: Without rear-facing reflectors or reflective tail lights, the vehicle may have reduced visibility from behind, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Riverside will notify owners, and dealers will install reflective tape on the rear bumper below the tail lights, free of charge. The recall began on May 11, 2017. Owners may contact Riverside customer service at 1-260-499-4578.

The contact owns a 2018 Riverside Whitewater Travel Trailer. The contact stated that while driving at 25 MPH, the contact noticed a scraping sound. The contact drove the RV to the shoulder of the road. The contact then parked the RV and exited the RV to complete an inspection of the travel trailer. The contact stated that while inspecting the travel trailer, the contact became aware that the A or the tongue of the frame had detached and was dragging on the street. In addition, the contact stated that the frame had damaged the electrical wires and the propane tank. The travel trailer was towed to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed with a fractured frame. The contact was informed that the frame needed to be re-welded. The travel trailer was repaired. The manufacturer of the travel trailer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. In addition, the manufacturer (Lippert Components) of the failed component was contacted, and a case was filed. The failure mileage was unknown because the trailer had no odometer.
