5/10/12: STOPPED IN TRAFFIC ON I-75 SOUTH IN TN. HAD DRIVEN APPROX 5 HOURS. TRAFFIC PROCEEDED TO NORMAL SPEED. STEPPED ON GAS PEDAL, CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. THEN IMMEDIATELY SPED OFF. DEALER WAS FINALLY ABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE ON 5/6/2013 (NOW OUTSIDE OF WARRANTY). THE ISSUE WAS FIRST RECOGNIZED BY NISSAN NOV 2006 (NTB05-084A). NISSAN CORP HAS CHOSEN TO NOT RECALL THE VEHICLES. THEY ALSO WILL NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR ($2050). WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THE REPAIR MAY NOT FIX THE ISSUE. SOME PEOPLE HAVE FIXED THIS ISSUE ONLY TO END UP HAVING THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED ($5000+). AFTER RESEARCHING ON THE INTERNET, SEVERAL THOUSAND CASES OF LEAKING OR FAILING TRANSFER CASES HAVE BEEN FOUND FOR THIS VEHICLE AND NISSAN HAS IGNORED ALL INSTANCES TO AVOID A RECALL. NISSAN IS STATING THEY WILL NOT WARRANTY THE TRANSFER CASE UNLESS I INSTALL AND UPGRADED SWITCH THAT IS LOCATED ON THE CONSOLE. I OWN A WELL MAINTAINED 2004 NISSAN MURANO SL AWD. THE TRANSFER CASE SPONTANEOUSLY BROKE WITHOUT ANY WARNING. ONCE THE EVENT OCCURRED, I IMMEDIATELY LOST THE ABILITY TO ACCELERATE ON A VERY BUSY STRETCH OF ROAD. THE ARE ALSO, ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, WENT FROM ABOUT 40MPH TO 15MPH WHILE I WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE. THERE WAS TRAFFIC BEHIND ME MOVING AT 40MPH, AND THIS UNINTENTIONAL DECELERATION OCCURRED WITHOUT ANY BRAKE LIGHT WARNING TO THE DRIVER BEHIND ME. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A FATAL COLLISION. THANKFULLY IT DID NOT, AND I WAS ABLE TO PUT MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON AND ROLL TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER LANE. I HAD THE CAR BROUGHT TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP FOR PROMPT REPAIR. WHILE DRIVING THE CAR TO A FAMILY FUNCTION (20 MILES, MIXED HIGHWAY AND LOCAL) HEARD A SLIGHT NOISE FOLLOWED BY A SOUND LIKE A TIRE GOING FLAT. SLOWED TO CHECK TIRES, WHEN NOISE STOPPED. UPON EXITING HIGHWAY, HEARD A VERY LOUD BANG FROM THE FRONT END, SIMILAR TO DRIVING THROUGH A DEEP POTHOLE. THERE WERE NO POTHOLES ON THE HIGHWAY RAMP. LIMPED TO HOME (APPROXIMATELY 1 MILE FROM END OF RAMP), CAR WAS SMOKING AND THERE WAS SOME NOISE FROM FRONT END, BUT IT COULD STILL BE DRIVEN. BROUGHT MY 2004 NISSAN MURANO IN FOR ALTERNATOR REPLACEMENT DUE TO FACTORY RECALL ON ALL 2003-2004 MURANOS. 3 DAYS LATER I BEGAN TO HEAR SOME VERY LOUD BANGING NOISES FROM THE ENGINE AREA. THE MURANO WAS TOWED TO NISSAN THAT WEEKEND AND ON MONDAY I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS MY TRANSMISSION. APPARENTLY THERE WAS REGULAR TRANSMISSION FLUID ADDED TO THE CVT TRANSMISSION. THE MASTRIA NISSAN SERVICE CENTER WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY AND THEY WILL NOT HONOR THE DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY. *JB
